Mine is still a giant mess. no suprise there. I am in my local WM so often for so many reasons that checking the toys out is just a little detour. I hope they keep selling XD and 32x, especially 32x and XD figures. :P

Bad part is that this WM is in the middle of many big retirement communities, so their toy section isn't as big or well stocked at the other WalMarts. Trouble is, my local WM is only 8 miles away, the other 4 WalMarts are from about 16 to 20 miles from me.

You do a lot of driving in this part of Florida. One more reason I can't wait to get out of this state.

Construction 3 3$" figures

Ya know, I do hate doing this, but hey, all I'd like is just some good Customer Service....
LOL! Funny, but I can assure you w/o your being their to browbeat them in person, no actual labor occurred.

Speaking of Wal-mart resets, I have read on another forum that Wal-mart has some new CAT-branded 3 3/4" action figures w/ GI JOE/Corps style articulation. Should be worth investigating further....

Do you know if these will be military figures? (It'd be neat if they were articulated Civil War figures.)

I work in the hardware department of my walmart and I was helping with the resets today and saw the CAT figures....I thought they looked pretty toyish but they had some shovels and other stuff like that which could be repainted and used

Stopped by the super walmart down the street from me. Doing resets in the toy department, of course. Asked the toy manager where the "big military airplanes" were located. Wanted to sound dumb to see if the manager knew something more about XD that just the manufacturer's name. She pointed me to a clearance rack where all were on sale for $20. I asked if they have anymore, she said no, and she added that my store manager said that we were no longer stocking the big airplanes anymore. I asked why. She said they don't sell well. Never get sold at retail, always having to mark them down to get them to sell, or transfer them to another store out of the area. I said that's too bad. She pointed to the 32x airplanes and said we're continuing to get more of these. Asked if I wanted one of them instead. I said, nah. I asked if she knew if WalMart was no longer going to carry "the big airplanes" anymore. She didn't know.
Cool thing there were 3 left of XD = the Canadian F-104, Pearl Harbor P-40 (160), and the yellow nose Stuka!!! I asked the manager how'd the Stuka get there. In fact I've never seen any Stuka in any Walmart ever. she said it was a transfer. I was shocked.

Lucky me, I couldn't pass it up. So for $20, I got my favorite Stuka!!

I wonder since that WalMart is no longer carrying XD, if that means all WalMarts are ending their suppply???

Maybe the whole reset phenomenon explains why the WM in Kitty Hawk NC last week had no signs of any 21C items, of any scale, whatsoever. I was shocked!

I had nearly the same experience in one of my local Wal Marts - I finally found what little XD there was: two 32x P-51Bs stashed way back on the bottom shelf. At least they were the newest "Bullfrog" and "Princess" repaints

But I was on vacation and prepared to spend freely on toys! (yes, I think of them as toys, not models, even if all I do is display them)

On the other hand, and a bit OT, I picked up a very cool (if somewhat crudely rendered) carved wooden (mahogany?) rendering of what looks like an F-84 Thunderjet (with the un-swept wings). It's maybe 1/24 scale and on a stand. Found it in a funky shop on the tourist strip (the place sells mostly ceramic pots and planters).

come to the conclusion

Post by Fitzystigertank » Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:52 pm

I have gone to 4 walmarts and they have all done there resets and theres not one XD figure or planes. i have also looked at the tags and none say 1:18 scale military figures. so my conclusion is that walmart isn't going to carry 21st anymore. now i still have to wait for TRU to carry them.

The reset at my local wally is 99% complete and the results are not encouraging to say the least. Not only is there nothing new 21C wise in any scale, but the big stack of XD aircraft that I expected to see on clearance is nowhere to be seen, it has simply vanished, either exiled to the dark dusty confines of the warehouse or sent off to other stores. Maybe the fall will bring better times, but I'm not optimistic at this point. :(

My neighborhood WM had two pegs of D-Day figures. I picked up the BAR gunner "Sammy" Smith. I had him from release but he had horrible skin tone so I sold him. This example has much improved coloration that reminds me of the BoB 2 figures. He was the only figure there with that skin tone.

There are no 32x single aircraft or dogfight packs at any of my local WalMarts, there are tags for them on the shelves though. Zero 32x single vehicles although there were a few of the new playsets at one store.

Another WM had a whole bunch of XD aircraft on the top (you need a ladder) shelf, including, a few each of BBD and Old Crow and two P-40s.

Of the two Walmarts I have visited lately (Benton Harbor and South Haven) both had their stock of 1/18 aircraft separated frnm the other 21st stuff (BH has one in the clearance area, one with R/C, and 5 stacked on tiop of a shelf on the other side of the toy department, whwile SH has them all in clearance). It looks like all are doomed for clearance, but all are still at full price. On the other hand, both stores have a great selection of D-Day figures (SH even had the S3 Otto), the new 1/32 playsets (which seem to be selling well). BH has a ton of different 1/32 Bf-109Fs. SH had the new Corsair/Zero dogfight pack. And both had several "kits".

Before we talk too much doom and gloom on the future of 1/18 XD at WM: it was the same story last year around this time, at least around here. No new planes since very early in the year, and most of those were gone or ready to scrap. The new halftracks and PAK-40 weren't out yet.. Just the new 1/32 playsets (Calais, etc.) And no space was reserved for any 1/18 vehicles. Then boom. Avengers, halftracks, F-86s., Migs, etc.

Just remember: WM won't leave shelf space empty for long, if at all. And if 21st isn't shipping it, WM won't make space. And considering the general drought of 1/18 vehicles from 21st so far this year (the only recent release was a TRU exclusive, it seems), why should WM leave empty shelves hoping something will show up to fill them?

Musical instruments are now stocked in toys...

Post by c44 » Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:24 pm

At one of the local WMs they didn't have the layout plans taped on the half-empty shelves, but they did have various memos plastered all over discussing past & future trends...one of them stated that GI Joes & the Corps from Lanard had soft sales this year...no mention of 21CT, but there was no XD product to be seen...make of that what you will (in the wacky world of WM it doesn't pay to infer anything from anything else, I always abandon logic at the door...) :)

None of my WalMarts even carried GI Joe until now, even that crappy Sigma 6 stuff. Well at least now they have the stickers on the pegs for 25th Joes, even though I haven't seen any there yet. Luckily I got my Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander and Cobra Officer from TRU when they still had them in stock. I passed up Flint which was stupid. Oh well, in due time. :P

3 of the 4 walmarts in my AO don't have any XD figures and the 4th has 6 or so U.S. figs., all are in week 3 of this reset thing.
I did see some 32x 2 packs, Zero and Corsair, British Firefly and German troops and King Tiger and U.S. troops. 8) but I'm not into that scale.

Normandy...Re: I did see some 32x...are you talking about at the new Farmingdale store on Rte 110? I went there for the first time this week & was actually impressed with how clean the store was (maybe because there were hardly any shoppers in the place)...this was the first place on LI I've seen 32x Dogfight sets (I picked up a couple in Westchester last summer)...& there were some XD tankers whose uniforms seemed a lighter green than the ones that came out a while back, but I haven't compared them yet to what I picked up back then...anyhow, I cleaned up on 32x stuff, & always appreciate any recon on that scale...PS Normandy, old friend, you might as well start collecting 1/32 cause when the day comes they release an Avenger in that scale, it's gonna be as irresistable as a beer for the road is to Lindsay Lohan... :)
...and a final note not worthy of a new topic listing...As an irony of all ironies, Wal-Mart briefly had a Google ad posted on this site hawking toys on their website...but with no 21CT!!!...do these clowns not know which side the bread is buttered on...?

Currahee, yes it is the Farmingdale location I was talking about. This store is never full, its not like people don't know about it. Just up the road is the 56th fighter group restaurant, when you pull up the place looks like a bombed out French farm house and inside it looks and feels like the 1940's. The American Air Power Museum is also right there. So if any of you guys are in the area check it out. I not saying you'll find anything at walmart :P but the restaurant and museum are worth the trip.
