Of the two Walmarts I have visited lately (Benton Harbor and South Haven) both had their stock of 1/18 aircraft separated frnm the other 21st stuff (BH has one in the clearance area, one with R/C, and 5 stacked on tiop of a shelf on the other side of the toy department, whwile SH has them all in clearance). It looks like all are doomed for clearance, but all are still at full price. On the other hand, both stores have a great selection of D-Day figures (SH even had the S3 Otto), the new 1/32 playsets (which seem to be selling well). BH has a ton of different 1/32 Bf-109Fs. SH had the new Corsair/Zero dogfight pack. And both had several "kits".
Before we talk too much doom and gloom on the future of 1/18 XD at WM: it was the same story last year around this time, at least around here. No new planes since very early in the year, and most of those were gone or ready to scrap. The new halftracks and PAK-40 weren't out yet.. Just the new 1/32 playsets (Calais, etc.) And no space was reserved for any 1/18 vehicles. Then boom. Avengers, halftracks, F-86s., Migs, etc.
Just remember: WM won't leave shelf space empty for long, if at all. And if 21st isn't shipping it, WM won't make space. And considering the general drought of 1/18 vehicles from 21st so far this year (the only recent release was a TRU exclusive, it seems), why should WM leave empty shelves hoping something will show up to fill them?
