A 1/18 Hind would be beautiful! I remember when I was young
Air Defense Artillery grunt back in the 80's out at Fort Irwin and
the NTC folks used a real Hind against us. The thing was huge
and very impressive. Looked like a mean SOB. Almost hated to
even simulate shooting it down :D

I had a chance to climb around in the Hind while it was undergoing maintenance at Ft. Rucker. The thing is freaking huge!

Yep, I think they are pretty heavily armored too, for an aircraft anyway, think they used to refer to them as "flying tanks" or some such, although you can bring one down with an RPG as the Mujahideen discovered in Afghanistan back in the day.

you can bring one down with a big net, if you thow it into the tail rotor.

It's a beauty though. I really hope BBI goes ahead and releases it.

Yeah, unlike the unrealalistic Hind taking a RPG to the cargo area in the movie Red Dawn. Still a good movie though, but that part always bugged me.

Yeah, I remember that one as well... a bit of smoke pouring out the side doors and so on... Most people who have never served in the military have no clue the tremendous wallop that an RPG can deliver, the concussion alone can kill quite effectively if it detonates in a tight space like the interior of a copter, never mind the fragments from the rocket body and the jet of molten plasma designed to eat through armor plate, nasty...very nasty.

I would have thought the RPG would have cripled the Hind and brought it down or at least killed the pilots, but for it to just shake it off (in a maner of speaking) and keep going, was a little far fetched.

Does anyone know what type of Helicopter they used as the base for those Hinds in Red Dawn? I only rember the angular shape of the cockpit which no Hind has.

Aferg is right on about the Rambo Hind but I am still not sure about the Red Dawn Helo. S-55 could be the base platform though.

Hey Aferg,

Noticed Mike doesnt seem to comment as much as before.
Any idea if a Hind (or any new aircraft) are planned any time in the near future?

What should BBi do next? Warthog or Hind? Warthog or Hind? Man, I would prefer to see a Hind, but how about that for two vehicles to be released at the same time. Talk about "Go Ugly!"

That would be unbelievably cool to see a Warthog and Hind released at the same time.............rather "Go Ugly Earlier" but I for sure wouldn't turn down a Hind.....

Hope we see both.

Go Ugly Early in 1/18 scale!

Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

If bbi does a Hind, I'll dance a Jig. That would be the coolest.

BTW anyone know of a great large scale model of the Hind? I wonder if there is an accurate 1/48 scale one or bigger out there. I don't really do models, but that would be a cool whirlybird, to build.

I saw Red Dawn tonight and noticed the Hinds in Red Dawn couldn't be Sikorsky S-55. The cockpit, engine cowling, tail boom, tail rotor, and cargo hold were not like a S-55, so I did some searching on the web. Found out that they were in fact SA 330 Pumas. A much larger helicopter than the S-55 and the tail and engine cowling are a prefect match. Just thought some of you might want to know.

i think Trumpeter makes a 1/32 or 1/35 model of the Hind.

There are a couple of 1/48 models as well. Easy to find.

That Trumpeter 1/35 scale Hind is awesome. I might have to get me one. Very detailed kit. Thanks for the head up on that aferguson.
