are you sure the depth charges carried by aircraft were the same drum shaped ones that ships carried?
I was under the impression they were of different design, but i could be wrong.
And yes depth charges would be WAY cool for the Atlantic avenger. Rockets and depth charges are all they carried for Uboat hunting. Not torpedoes.

i never met an airplane i didn't like...
Avenger on approach
I've been checking out my WM's, with no luck so far. The plane looks absolutely great! The screw holes are bothersome, in that all other 21C aircraft has them, too, but are plugged. Hopefully there will be plugs available for this one, too.
Here is a great link that shows some depth charges being dropped:
http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-569.htm
Also, if you follow the links and go to the after-action report, this Avenger used "Mark 17-2 flat-nosed TNT, set for 25' hydrostatic pressure".
Other Avengers were successful with the Mark 24 "Fido" homing torpedo: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-402-25.htm
One Avenger carried both one Fido and 2 DB's: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-220ASW6.htm
Fido:

I'm digging around to see if I can find a photo of a depth bomb.

Mark 17 depth bomb
Here's a photo of a Mark 17 depth bomb (325 lb) being loaded on a SOC-3 Seagull.

The U-Boat archives (online) has many after-action reports that list the Mark 17 and Mark 47 depth bombs, and the Mark 24 "aerial mine"...actually an accoustic homing torpedo. The load-out of the DB's could be up to four, which leads me to believe that they were similar in size and loading to a 500-lb general-purpose bomb. The Mark 24's max load seemed to be 2, probably loaded in tandem in the bay. The diameter of the Mark 24 was 19", whereas the Mark 13 torpedo was 22".
Later on, when we get Bush's plane, it was (as were many of the TBM's at that time) was loaded with four 500-lb GP bombs. I've saved bombs from some P-47's and a P-51 to load out my Bush plane.

If I recall, the first signings of the Zeros were in remote WMs and within 2 weeks they were trickled down into the rest of the WMs. Can some one clarify this?
Sorry about the recon! I too have spent the weekend looking for the Avengers! I have gone to a total of 7 WMs here in DFW from Roanoke, Lewisville, Carollton, Addison and Farmers Branch. I even went to Denton's WM, the next closest WM to Gainsville, and 'no-show'! I expect them to hopfully this week to start showing up here since it sounds like they are appearing in BFE locations across the mid-west and calf.On a whim, I decided to take my son on the 1.5 hour roundtrip to "the middle of nowhere", three hours before his birthday party where I found 0 Avengers..

Just did a huge recon covering well over 80 miles and hitting 6 Wal Marts in the Fresno, Ca. area with no Avengers. This is all the more frustrating because the planes have been sighted well to the north and south of my AO.
Among the many ME-109Gs and P-47s I did come across a very unusual aircraft assortment find at a south Fresno store: 2 "Flying Undertaker" retooled P-51s and 2 "Smoke II" F-104s. Further, the F-104s were in the special editioin "Marinefleiger" boxes
Now I know there will be some disbelief, especially for the $40 "Smoke IIs" but I know my XD planes and I know what I saw. The boxes were new and factory sealed. So, you may want to keep and eye out for these!

Warhawker, I'm surprised we haven't run into each other as we seem to hitting the same stores. I went to Denton and both Lewisville locations, today, and was heading to Roanoke, tomorrow. I was planning on hitting either Coppell or Southlake, this evening. The word from Oklahoma is the Walmart drivers only know how to drive north, however, I'm not willing to risk another night on the couch to find out.warhawker wrote: Sorry about the recon! As Mark mentioned, we should coordinate our search. That way we can buy Avengers from Walmart instead of gas.
