1/18 aviation is so...dull.

Can we move the posts somewhere else?

I'm looking for 1/18 figure posts and 1/18 tiger tank posts. You know, the fun stuff! I hate it when I'm checking the post board and all I see are Mustang this and Tigercat that. (I don't even know the names of all these planes.)

They're just so...boring.

I love the armor, but will always be an aviation fan first and foremost. Besides, the planes tend to have much more detail and are bigger sellers than any Sherman or M17 trailer ever were

I think that's why I never got into aviation. Or naval stuff for that matter. It's all so abstracted. You drop a bomb from a plane. You fire cannons from a ship. In neither case are you up front facing the enemy head on.

In a tank, an enemy soldier can run up behind you and attack you. It's very close and personal.

Ground forces rock.

Ummm...no. Considering there's far more 1/18th planes than 1/18th armor pieces...

Just because a certain subject is boring to me personally doesn't mean it should be removed and put in a seperate area.

I mean, the multiple Indian Jones threads are very boring and dull to me, but I just skip by them because I know others like them.

Actually, dogfights in WWI, WWII, and Korea could get quite personal. Yes, the opposing pilots were in machines moving at hundreds of miles per hour, but in the end they were facing eachother man-to-man in a way that few infantry soldiers often came into contact. Air combat through much of the 20th century existed much more in the realm of single hand-to-hand combat, where the pilot's skill, cunning, and sheer agression decided the nature of a match. Outside of a few instances, modern warfare over the past 100 years has been quite impersonal as well with its massed armies and mechanization.

However, in an effort to reach common ground, since WWI both air power and ground power have grown to be inseperable to any country's armed forces wishing to wage ware effectively. You might notice that the US & Coalition ground troops in Iraq and Afghanistan still rely heavily on aircraft, whether they be combat jets, helicopters, UAVs or otherwise for reconissance and offensive or defensive air cover

Actually, that would be rather difficult to do in the WWII era of unguided gravity bombs, not impossible mind you, but a rocket attack would be far more likely to knock out a WWII tank. I don't mind the aviation related posts at all. It takes boots on the ground to win wars, true enough, but the aviation branch was, and still is an important part of the combined arms warfare concept.

Look closely at your forums' President/ Owner what do you see?
What does he do for a living ? He makes his living off of taking pictures of planes. That should tell you everything that you need to know.

Not difficult to do, they just dropped more bombs. How many german tanks were lost to allied bombing raids?

I really doubt the crews in WW2 would agree with that, especially the ones that experienced Kamikaze attacks... That's about as "head on" as it gets and where you gonna run to? Where you gonna dig a foxhole?

I mean if you're talking saturation bombing like in Operation Cobra or something, then yeah ok, the Germans lost significant numbers of tanks to bombs, many were simply upended due to near misses. On the other hand, the ability of WWII fighter bombers to routinely hit a tank sized object with a single bomb was pretty slim, and a hit from a high altitude bomber was pure luck, but of course if you drop enough bombs on a tightly packed group of vehicles you're bound to hit something sooner or later. Bottom line...the level of pinpoint bombing accuracy just was not like it is nowadays.
