America's Army figures are out

Post by digger » Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:49 am

First I saw of these was on the pegs at TRU today. There are four different figs, all pre-posed (one in a nice crouch) and they look a tad bit bigger than 1:18, but not even 1:16. That close. All 4 feature great webgear and uniforms/outfits, but nothing is removable! Great helmets, didn't appear to come off. Very nice M4s, STUCK to the firing hand. Awesome kit, molded on! Argghh...these figs have poor articulation (thigh swivel and nothing else on the leg, one guy had a chest swivel) but would make great customs fodder if the goodies came off! Simple paint jobs but if I could break 'em down I wouldn't care. So close, yet so far...
In all the excitement I didn't scan them..

Took a look at these. Seemed pretty cheap looking, at least the head sculpts. Maybe once they clear out, I'll give them a look.

I saw the America's Army figures at TRU just today. It is really cool how they are associated with a real soldier and you get a card and all but the quality looked really bad. I did pick up three of Mcfarlanes 6" Military series series five and they are awesome. My favorite is the Special Ops but the Marine and Coast Guard are very cool as well. The detail is amazing. The .50 cal mount is really cool and the weapon itself is finely detailed, even with spent casings on the deck. I haven't had a chance to hook everything up yet though. I also wanted the Para-jumper which comes with a portion of a helicopter door with winch but they didn't have that one. For $11 you cant beat the quality, detail and realism. sure they are static figures but if you wan't super realistic and poseable large scale go get some dragon 1/6th figures for $40+ Here are some quick and dirty pics.

Yeah I've followed the series but never picked one up. When I saw these series 5 guys, especially the Army spec ops I had to get 'em. The pictures don't do them justice, when you pick them up and see all the fine details it's really amazing.

I had some of McFarlane's other figures in the past and they are always great. I just wish they would do some WWII figures.

I really wish the quality of the America's Army guys was higher. There was little or no skin coloring, a lot of the weapons were bent inside the blister pack and even the Flag on their sleeves (a sticker) had peeled off on some of them. If they made it look a little more like the real guy and raised the general quality I'd pay $10 or so gladly because the concept is cool.
