Well I don’t know the exact scale but this a movie prop from flight of the intruder.
I thought I would share this with you guys.
Another big tease I wish the big three would make.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

Somewhere I saw some company is making an A-6 in 1:72 scale... As I sat looking at the picture, I thought how cool one would be in 1:18

After the F-4 that would be my next choice over all the other aircraft comming out this year. I thought it a cool AC from the first time I saw it as a kid.

That would be Century Wings. I have two of there F-14's and they are outstanding. I plan on getting both of the A-6's that they are producing.(An E, and a D, IIRC).

And yes one in 1:18 would be way cool, and would really go well with the F-4 and Sandy that are coming out.

When I have trouble falling asleep I think about how I might scratch build an A-6. In reality, what it would amount to would be two guys sittin' next to each other with an A-6 type bubble canopy. The rest would be two pipes under a fuselage that wouldn't be much more than a sloped tube. Still, it's A-6 enough for me.

I'm upset that at the rate the big 3 are going, we will never see anything as beautiful as that Intruder. C'mon guys think of the repaints, 'Nam, low vis, an EA-6A and EA 6B retool and repaints :?

The A-6....... yet another of my all time favorite A/C. I am glad to see that the Intruder has so many fans here. I would have NEVER asked for one in 1/18 scale, for fear everyone would laugh at me.  But since were on the subject..............

Yeah, I would love a 1/18 scale A-6, in any form. I would rank it up there with the F-14 and F-15 as far as my faves go. (Go ahead, laugh.) Unfortunately, I just don't think this is an A/C that any of the big three would produce. Sure would be nice though.

Not so fast. I'm savin' money to get the Phantom(s) when they come out. If I were to find out that there was an Intruder on the way then you guys can keep the rest. The F-4 and the A-6 would be all I need.

Do The Math.................

Post by der Vogelfänger » Sat Jul 21, 2007 9:59 am

A very simple solution to "how big" an airplane is is this:

1/18 scale for example, divide 12" by 18" and you get 0.6666666, and round up to 0.67...........now, take the wing span of the A6A=53feet, multiply 53x.67=35.51" for the 1/18 scale wing span measurement. The A6A length is 54'7"(7"=.58"), thus 54.58x.67=36.57" for the 1/18 scale lenght measurement. Lastly, the height of the A6A is 15'7".....15.58x.67=10.44" for the 1/18 scale height measuremant.

The common, important figure above is "0.67" as the multiplier for anything in 1/18 scale.

The math will put all word posts and other speculations to rest. Math will give you the exact size.

BTW, where do you come up with all your questions? You must have lots of time to invest in thought. Smile.

dV

Post Script: Multipliers for other scales are; 1/32=0.375 1/48=0.25 1/72=0.17 1/144=0.0833 (1/16=0.75).

Just my own speculation...but I think as time goes on and the range of WW2 aircraft subjects continues to shrink as they keep making new models, they will eventually start looking into making more modern aircraft like the A-6, A-7, F-14, F-15, Harrier and dare I say the A-10... :)
