A question for Plane/jet/heli collectors.
A question for Plane/jet/heli collectors.
I have always been more of an infantry and ground vehicle nut.I have a ton of respect and love for the war in the sky,but never had much desire to collect or paint them.I was just wondering what you guys do with the stuff you collect.Do you keep the planes mostly boxed,or do you display them.I had a hard time keeping extra figures boxed due to storage space.I can't imagine the space needed for a plane collection. If you could post some pics of your displayed collections I would love to see them.

All of mine are hanging from the ceiling. One upside to aircraft: it doesn't look too wrong to have one over another or overlapping in the same airspace. Parking your Sherman on top of your Abrams, however, might raise a red flag.

Having a currently limited amount of space to display my collection, I rotate pieces through. Others are kept in a variety of storage spaces from cupboards, to a closet shelf, to their storage boxes, to my attic. It all works out, but when I acquire something new, there's always the question of where to put it

Hey where did you get that pic of my garage from Grunt??

As for my collection, I try to keep items grouped by scale and type but I have very little space and lots of stuff. 1:18 aircraft, 1:32 aircraft, now I'm into 1:72 and 1:100 aircraft even though I said I wouldn't get into another scale.
I have groups of 1:32 armor, some 1:18 armor, GI Joe figures, Star Wars figures, Transformers, and Robotech mecha scattered all over. Besides the figures on display I have a giant storage bin with about 60 different 1:18 BBI and XD figs I haven't opened yet and another with a large number of unopened Star Wars figures and a pile of unopened 1:32 armor in a closet. I forget I have some of it so it's a suprise every time I go through the stuff.
So basically stuff gets put wherever it can fit, near like items if possible.

I too hang mine from the ceiling. Unless i take them down to use in a diorama. But if i run out of room i wil put it back in the box. When i started collecting this i had to pack all my starwars and gi joe stuff away. I had rare starwars items and i miss them

I hang some of my 1:18 planes and helos and store the others. I keep my hanging display limited to 5 aircraft, with two more on top of a display table. The displayed aircraft are rotated through every few weeks or when I simply get tired of a particular plane. I also made a similar wall display as above, save that I used my 1:32 aircraft.

My 20+ 1/32 planes have to stay in the closet , simply no room. Besides they don't look as cool hanging as the 1/18 planes IMO
I do plan on squeezing in a few more (F6F, SBD,) and replacing my Atlantic TBF with a Bunker Hill. Go Navy!

I think you need to educate her and tell her these are replica models not toys, then you need to smooth her over, take her out to dinner and propose to her all over aging. But don’t give her an XD sized reengagement ring size diamond.jeffrowse wrote:Helos (minus rotors) and Hornet (minus the starboard wing + tail) on shelves, Falcon on a box(!) in the spare room.![]()
Given my druthers, they'd be hanging from the ceiling in my "playroom" but the wife won't let me - says grown men shouldn't be playing with toys
