25th Anniversary Joes arrive
Hello all!
I read the forums here quite often, but I don't think I've really ever posted.
I just wanted to give everyone here a heads up that the G.I. Joe 25th anniversary figs are hitting retail, both the 5 packs and the single packs. If anyone wants pics or SKU numbers, I can post them tomorrow.

A quick recon of all the stores in my AO that carry Joes (WM, Meijer, and Target) drew a blank today, so hopefully they will start to show in the next few days. They haven't done anything special to make room for them yet at any of the stores, so it could be a while until they show.

Is it just me or do the new figures look bow-legged? The legs also appear to be really, really skinny and the waist/hips are just.. odd. Check out Cobra Commander and the Trooper in this picture. Destro looks bad as well and the Baroness... oh my. http://smalljoes.com/images_gijoe/25a_cobra5pk_l.jpg
I was really looking forward to these but now I'm not so sure.

At first, I was really excited about these. But, with more reviews being done with pictures, I'm not so sure. The only one that I know I will pick up is the Storm Shadow v2. Otherwise, I'm just waiting to see them in person. Especially the 5 packs. In each of them, there is one figure I really want, and the rest are

Exactly. After looking at many pics and reading reviews I can honestly say I like my originals much better. Hell, my 80's retro-style Cobra Troopers from last year's six-pack look a million times better than the anorexic version!:evil:Morian Miner wrote:At first, I was really excited about these. One more thing I noticed. The removable utility belts on the figures look cheap as hell.

Some of the 5-pack figs look a bit bowleged due to being packaged the way they are.Rowsdower wrote:Is it just me or do the new figures look bow-legged? My overall opinion on the whole line is positive though, despite a few complaints. I've always been a huge G.I. Joe fan though, so I'm a bit biased.
later waves
I see Beachhead and others are due soon. Does anyone have a list of all the characters that are planned for re-release so far? Thanks.

Well maybe I will change my mind after a few of the single figures are released. I've been a Cobra nut since about 1984 so I was a little dissapointed to see the Cobra 5-pack. And it's not just the way they are packed, I've seen pics of posed figs and the way the waist/hips and legs are designed looks really bad on some of the figures.
But like I said I hope to see some good figures for I am also a Joe fan. Well mostly Cobra.

It's not that bad. Part of this is due to how they have been packaged. Scarlett's leg has been turned in a funny way in the package, for example. They aren't bow-legged. The legs are skinner as you pointed out, this is a feature of the new design. The figures are a little bit taller than the "old school" 3 3/4" counterparts. One of the GI JOE web sites w/ reviews shows some comparison photos.Rowsdower wrote:Is it just me or do the new figures look bow-legged? I've been playing a little with these a little on the July 4th holiday. Have to say I really like the updated designs for the classic characters. Hasbro has done a great job.
There are a few minor gripes:
1) Many of the figures do not hold the accessories well. So, the added articulation does not really hold up on this front. Hasbro needs to work on it.
2) The pegs on the GI JOE (just the GI JOE) figure stands are too short due to the raised logo. The figures barely stay on the stand. Note that the holes in the figures' feet are not in the heel which is a further problem. The peg is too far back on the stand (toward the dge). FORGET ABOUT getting Roadblock to stay on this stand. In fact, forget about Roadblock even holding his hmg. The stand looks sharp but was not well thought out.

Hmm, I see what you mean about the legs, I suppose the new style just takes some getting used to. Hopefully they can remedy the issues with the stands and the problems with holding the accessories. I really want to like these so I will cut Hasbro some slack!coreystinson wrote:It's not that bad. Part of this is due to how they have been packaged. Chances are, the figure using the Storm Shadow mold is going to be Satan, but Habro will call him Red Ninja more than likely.coreystinson wrote:digger wrote: And then in another assortment this fall or near the end of of the year:

Found the first wave of singles at Kmart today. Bought Storm Shadow and the Cobra Officer. Really like Storm Shadow. Cobra officer is okay - could be better, could be worse.
Probably will wait for the Cobra driver set or Wave 2 singles before I pick up more. Or at least another Stormie.

Was surprised they had them. Our K-Mart usually is pretty dismal with regards to toys. But, it was nice to give them some of my money, rather than the usual Walmart/Target. Also found me another Jawa there, so a very good toy run.
Only bad part is I bought two storm shadows, and my daughter took one. Now, he is living in a Playmobil dollhouse, married to a comic-pack Scarlett

I found and picked up the Cobra battle pack at a local TRU in Atlanta today. It was the only battle pack they had left. I have the Joe battle pack on the way.
My overall impression of the new figures is they ROCK!!! Good construction, awesome detail, and nice tight joints for posing. Only complaint is the lack of full sitting position. It'll make them hard to fit in some vehicles.
If you are wondering how they will fit in with the bbi and 21st Century figures....they fit perfectly in my opinion. Way, way better than the old style ARAH figures do. This is what I've been waiting for. The heights and proportions of the new figures make them blend well. Looks like Hasbro has started paying attention to different Joe character's height and size in relation to other characters and this makes them look even better. Destro is a powerhouse like he should be.
Here are a few quick pictures I took of the Cobra Trooper and one of my modern bbi figures for comparison. Sorry if they are a little blurry. I replaced the gun that came with the Cobra Trooper with an AK-47 from one of my 21st NVAs.

Gonna have to build a little Cobra army and stock up on the AKs.

I'll try to take more pictures later.
