Spinach camo taking a hit.

The last 2 times they had a spinach Me 109 on e-bay both of them went for under $80 dollars. The white winter Me 109 have been fetching over $100 what is going on?

i never liked the winter camo ones, totally bogus scheme (for a 109e)

a bit of history: the spinach 109 is misnamed. It was originally going to be the desert sand and spinach scheme 109 but that one was put out first but by then had already been dubbed 'spinach' and the name has stuck ever since. I wouldn't mind getting a 'spinach' 109 some day as it's a nice early war scheme but i have no interest in paying any more than regular retail for it, so i probably will never get one.

I've seen it happen more than once where once a certain figure or paint scheme or whatever starts to hit a certain price, the market gets "flooded" and prices drop. Suddenly something else becomes the "rare" item and its price goes up. Supply and demand, baby, supply and demand

Hey guys while you are on the subject of paint sceames,Why did they do the Spifire in D Day markings? It is a Mk IIA the only Spits to wear that sceame were Mk IX"s i thought they might have done thiere reserch a bit better

I think there were two theories behind the choice.
1) 99% of the potential buyers wouldn't know the difference.
2) They already had the tooling for the Mk IIA. Relatively speaking, paint is cheap. Tooling isn't.

the scheme was actually on a Mk. V spitfire, which is somewhat close to a Mk II, at least alot closer than a Mk. IX is. The plane was loaned to the US and used for artillery spotting for offshore bombardments.

I do not think the market (e-bay) was flooded with the spinach 109 . Either it was bad timing on the auction or lack of interest. I know that this is blasphemy but what could it be?

Aferg is right about the d-day Spit being a Mk V. I found a partial picture of 4Q in the book Air Combat legends Me-109 and Spitfire. It's a great book if you like either one of those planes.

I figure that they were going for so much the Spinach was always well over 100 and Ive seen a couple winter ones go for 250...that people quit bidding on them figuring they would end up going for too much.
