Adding Another F4U And Ira Kepford F4U Update!!!!!

Hey guys. First I called Bad Cat and ordered the CheckerBoard F4U so I have added another Bent Winged Bird to pair up with my Kepford Corsair. I have always wanted to get the CheckerBoard F4U but I always put it off. Well no more. She is on her way!!

Update for those interested in buying a Kepford Corsair. Forget it they are no longer being produced!!! Julie at Bad Cat informed me that 21st has quit making them, why? She didnt know but 21st no longer makes em and they are no longer posted on Bad Cats website. Damn I'm glad I ordered it because it buries the original release in my book. It looks as though the CheckerBoard version is headed for extinction as well along with the Pappy Corsair. Does this mean 21st will be coming out with more F4U's in the future with different markings of other squadrons? I sure hope so because I may have differences with their Mustangs but I have NO beefs with their Corsairs which have all been done very well. I'm going to pass on the Pappy Corsair because its one I can live without.

I would love to see an F6F or Zero come out but that dont look like its going to happen soon but we can hope right?

I'm sure that there are Kepfords still out in the Walmart distribution stream and other online retailers. With the Kepford, the Checkertail Corsair went through 2 full production runs, and it's been around for quite a while. However, I never listen to what anybody says anymore. There are too many variables in this hobby and anything can happen. Remember, we have seen the Winter Stuka and Putt Putt redone out of the blue, so anything can happen. It's all part of the fun............

At the Walmarts in my area teamski I have yet to see ONE Kepford Corsair. All I've seen is P-40's and 109's and thats it, nothing else. 21st retiring the Kepford bird just surprises me thats all. I mean it wasnt re-released all that long ago and now they retire it again? Strange. When it comes to getting the scoop about 21st I'll believe Bad Cat because their warehouse is almost right next to 21st so they DO get the insights into whats going on.

Retire is a inaccurate term, really. 21st does about 2000 of each scheme so you could refer to each of them as a "run". I had a load of Kepfords here in DE, and they sold REAL well. It all comes down to the distribution woes that you didn't see them where you are at. I can create quite a list of planes I never saw in my AOR but I never considered them "rare". The numbers of planes (to the best of my knowledge) are pretty consistent as far as the runs are concerned.

heya fellas
i was just thinking about corairs this week too...
and i have a quick question for you guys that have the pappy corsair. is it easy to change the pappy markings to another member in his squadron? just curious cuz i was thinking of doing a pacific dio with 2 or 3 corsairs and the Black Sheep would be a great iconic piece to it..but i can't have 3 pappy planes sitting there on the run way

. there is only 1!! but since the other corsairs that 21st makes are from different squadrons and have different markings i was thinking of modifying a couple of pappy corsairs.

so i was just wondering if anyone as changed or pained over the pappy name, maybe a few (or more than a few) of the japanese flags and you have to change the markings on the landing gear to a different number right??

of course this will be one of the many dioramas i have in my head and will probably sit in my head..but i would at least like to get the planes.

any help is greatly appreciated.

There is only the large "86" on the side, as well as the kill markings and Boyington's name on the side of the plane. I would guess that if you could find a paint match for the dark blue, then you could cover these markings and add your own.

Just for accuracy, the corsair 21c depicts as Boyington's plane was never used by that famous pilot in combat. It was another aircraft used for a 1943 magazine shoot and had the numbers and labels hastily applied shortly before Boyington arrived - hence the fact that some of the kill markings are on backwards. The actual aircraft used by VMF-214 were not marked so elaborately and pilots often flew what ever aircraft were servicable at the time as opposed to taking up one particular aircraft.

Back on GP's old site, a boardmember named Delta Team made a fantastic Black Sheep Squadron diorama. He still lurks on this board and a while ago, reposted that dio on this board under the below thread:
