I have done two dioramas using 1/144 tanks. The Monkey Depot has a good collection of Dragon and Takara 1/144 tanks. I favor Dragon, but Takara is also nice, and might fill in the blanks for you . At this point, Takara makes a T34, Dragon doesn't. Also, 3000toys.com has a strong collection of 1/144 (Dragon). Takara will have more post WWII tanks, while Dragon certainly has some good offers also.

I don't collect 1/144 so I really can't say who offers the nicer quality stuff, but Walmart usually carries a fairly good selection (depending on the store) of 1/144 tanks from 21st Century Toys, and they are very reasonably priced too, so this might be a good way for you to get a lot of bang for your buck, and there are no shipping charges involved like there would be if you buy online. The downside is I believe they are mostly WWII era, but it might be worth checking out the toy section of your local Wally just to see what they've got.

You might also check the Toy Federation http://www.thetoyfederation.com and Good Stuff to Go http://www.goodstufftogo.net. Both have some Dragon 1/144 items. Unfortunately, as has already been mentioned, the majority are WWII era. Although last I checked, Good Stuff to Go did have a 3-pack of modern warbirds from Dragon for $3. The World Tank Museum line did have at least 2 series (#3 amd #6) of modern armor from several countries, if you can track them down.
As far as diorama accessories, just look for N-Scale railroading accessories. Technically, N scale is supposed to be 1/160, but it's close enough that the difference is almost unnoticeable.
