Tiger on a trailer

Post by warhawker » Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:07 am

I was doing some looking around at the one sixth warrior web site and ran across this photo of what appears to be a 1/1 Tiger:
http://www.onesixthwarriors.com/photo/s ... 13&cat=509
I wonder if this Tiger was used a a recent movie or event?
As well I found a 1/2 German 1/2 track:

I think that is Tank duels tiger replica from SPR.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

Yep, I own it.

My unit's web site, where you can see shots of her and some in action (Check Op. Nordwind, 2007) is located here:

www.9thsspanzer.com

It is the SPR "Sticky Bomb" tank. It is a T-34/85 underneath a metal framed and bodied Tiger exterior. The gun is oxygen/propane fired. It is powered by its 38 Liter, V-12 motor, and it is a diesel. And if you live in the East Coast, she'll be going to the Reading Airshow in June.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,
9th

Very cool! I love the halftrack. The noises of the tanks echoing off various buildings as they slowly approach the town at the end SPR, is that engineered, mixed sound or is that how it actually sounded there?

For some reason that part, the tension and those awesome mechanical noises sticks with me.

A little of both. my understanding is that some sounds were dubbed in. I can tell you that it is loud and creaky and groans like a real Tiger. Here is a shot of her in her field debut on the East Coast in March:

The trucker's name escapes me now, but it may have been David.

The smoke is from a combination of a couple of things:

1) It is a WWII Russian Diesel motor. Not exactly built with the greatest of tolerances or machining.
2) 2 of the cylinders on the motor have worn rings. I am currently sourcing new rings, and I plan to do a complete motor refreshing after June.
3) It was a slightly cold day (about 35 degrees or so) when that film was taken, and the motor was not really warmed up to proper temp. when the film was shot.

Overall, yes, she does smoke, but on a warmer day, when warmed up, its not quite as bad. Once the new rings are in, the injectors rebuilt, and a few other issues taken care of, I am sure she'll put out less smoke then a Destroyer running at 35 knots...

Just issue gas masks to any infantry running behind the tank.

Smoking or not, good luck with her..

Just keep her running in warm weather. My 73 Buick Electra 225, is a "fair weather babe". Soon as it gets cold, she smokes until she nice and warmed up... :o , kinda like Mrs. TTT...

Just an update, regarding the smoking condition, we cleaned out the fuel filters this weekend, seems like 60+ years of accumulation had been sitting in them, she runs much smoother and cleaner now. Still need to do a ring job on her, but for now, she's much improved.

Come see her at the Reading Air Show June 1-3, Reading, PA.

Is your unit going to be there as Waffen SS or Wehrmacht? Wasen't there somthing about SS troops at the Reading Show? or I my be thinking of an other event. Any way Good Luck with the Tiger.

Well, we'll be there is Dot-44 camo and smocks, but you are right, officially, no SS units are supposed to attend. However, we're going as "Cannons On-Line" the business name of one of our unit member's, and that is how the powers that be are letting us skirt the rules.

Yep, Fri-Sun, June 1-3. Should be a good time. If you come, or anyone else for that matter, and want to say hi, just ask for "Rolo" near the Tiger. Everyone there will know who I am.
