Question: XD Eastern Front cammo Tiger I.

Post by tmanthegreat » Tue Apr 24, 2007 10:05 pm

I'm considering getting this tank and had a couple quick questions for those members that have this particular XD Tiger paintscheme. First, is the interior painted white like it is on the original gray Tiger, including the inside walls of the hull & turret, as well as the undersides of the hatches? Secondly, is there any weathering so to speak, like the mud-stains on the original gray Tiger?

Thanks for your help :D

XD Tiger1 "Eastern Front" ?

"Yeah" ,.. the interior is just like the grey one ,.. and unfortunately no weathering to speak of ,.. however the dents are there though , just like the 1st. The gun barrel is a solid piece and not seperate , like it's predecessor. ... ... "Hope this helps in your planned purchase". I think you would be happy with this tank , even though some consider the overall camo-scheme , "toyish" or like a 10-yr. old painted it. ... This just happens to be my favorite Tiger. ... 8)

At one time these were the most expensive on e-bay. They were up into the low $100. I think that I got mine for a steal at $78. That was about 3-5 years ago. Then they re-released it at e-tailers wich drove the price down to about $35 to $45. Now they cruise at about $50-$60. They have some on e-bay now I think and you can get them in that price range. The camo is my favorite as well. But the winter is a very close second. A little weathering on the camo would bring it to life. Dirty paint thinner will go a long way to nock off the toyish look.

Yeah, the more I look at it I can kinda see what you mean about the "toyish" paint thing.... on the other hand, most 10 year olds can do better camo schemes than me, so I think I have a winner here too. :) Got mine on ebay about a month or so ago for $42 delivered, and I think that was a pretty sweet deal considering the price ranges pickelhaube was talking about. 8)

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll go for it  The cammo scheme seems more accurate for the Tiger than the original Panzer-gray scheme, and it should go better with my other XD German tanks, all of which are in some sort of multi-colored cammo pattern.

Since we are on prices, Opinion-wise, what would be a good asking price for a MIB whitewash Tiger?

I think the tiger is by far the coolest tank 21st has released so far. I like the removable turret and the detailed interior. I think all the paint variants of the tiger are great.

Thanks. Maybe I will hold on to it until the supply goes down.

Well, I got my Eastern Front cammo Tiger a few days ago, and I must say that I'm impressed with it :D

Obviously there's nothing new as far as the features are concerned, however, the paintscheme looks great! Much better than in the photos I've seen of the actual examples and perhaps more like the one in the 21c promo photo. There appears to be some subtle weathering, though it could simply be some overspray from the cammo paint. It lacks some of the finer paint details that my original gray Tiger (from TRU) exhibits, but overall it is now my favorite Tiger paintscheme! The cammo pattern makes the tank look far less out-of-place when sitting next the other 21c German armored vehicles, as it is not in the solid panzer gray paintscheme.

I made a few slight customizations to the tank, including painting the hatch undersides white, painting the bow MG a gunmetal color, as well as adding a few details inside the vehicle to make it more "personalized." The crew consists of individualized figures made using the Max Rhode German tanker body.

All in all, I recommend this version of the XD Tiger for the German armor fans 8)

the hatch undersides should be dark yellow. They were painted this way so as to not stand out (gleaming white) when the hatches were open.

Aferg's point did cross my mind, but accurate or not, I still like what I did
