best of the 1/18 rc's?

i'm thinking of getting one of the 1/18 rc tanks that 21c has put out, to actually use as an rc tank, but haven't really paid attention to the problems and advantages of them.

I believe there is a speed issue with the P IV, which can be somewhat corrected by a fairly simple battery mod. I gather that means there is no speed control for the tank...it either goes at full speed or it's stopped, is that correct? What about the breaking wheel problem, is that resolved on later issues of the tank? And other features.....rotating turret, recoiling gun barrel?....do these work well?

Is the rc M113 worth the money?

I got the MK IVD and it has been a top notch performer. I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I believe the Mk IVD has better road wheels than the MK IVH that was released earlier.

The recoil is a joke, but fun anyways. The whole tank moves back when you "shoot". The speed is fine by me.

I also have no problem with the speed and have had no problem overall with the Panzer at all. I have more fun with the 1/18 Panzer than with my 1/6 RC Stuarts. A quicker set up and "blam" you are playing...

I was going to buy additional Panzers, after this past Christmas season, clearance but house shopping got in the way and I missed the sales.

I have the S3 Panzer IV H (in the same tan & brown cammo as the non-RC Europanzer).

21c also aparently worked out the bugs in this one as well, and I have had no problems either. They beefed up the drive sprockets over the earlier two Panzer IVs and this tank can cross and manuver over rougher terrain than my S1 RC Panzer IV - which I returned. The turret rotation is a fun feature. The sound is off and the recoil function and drive speed are excessive, but it is still a great tank! I modified a couple 21c German tanker figures to fit within the hatches, but have left the tank itself free of modifications.

I also have the NATO cammo RC M-113 and have had few problems with it. It moves more slowly than the Panzer IV and only has the drive function and sound effects (including the MG firing sound). I modified my M-113 so that I could properly place a figure in the commander's hatch and two passengers polking out through the large deck-hatch over the passenger compartment.

All in all, both are great little RC vehicles that can drive quite well over rough terrain and which have the added bonus of being accurate-looking armored vehicles. They are a great option if you don't have the space for the 1:6 Stuart

If you're paying close to retail price, get one of the later Panzers. More bang for the buck. But, if you can get one at a decent price, buy an M113 too.

I wonder why they haven't made rc shermans and tiger I's. Makes me wonder if the P IV and M113 didn't sell well enough to justify further rc developments of other models.

Ok, so how about motorizing the Cobra so the rotors spin and....aww, forget it.

The first R.c one was supposed to be a sherman F.A.O even had it listed in there catalogue but alas no dice it fell through i guess.

They seriously need an RC 1:18 Sherman - and while they're at it, another modern vehicle, like the M-48 or M-2

However, I agree with the above statement that 21c may be hesitant to make future RC tanks based on poor sales. I know that in my area, tons were shiped well before and during the holiday season, with most not selling until discounted to somewhere lower than $35. Others sat around with broken parts - and no one (save for the rare customizer) want's to buy a defective product...

The grey one that came out last is my favorite and I returned one of my others in favor of it Aferg... I've not had teh wheels on my grey Panzer break, but I haven't run it a lot either. I like it as a stand-alone model and don't have time to run it much.

It throws tracks, but they all seem to do that in my experiences, at least on carpeting.
