SWEET the KT looks great! very glad to see new armor on its way.
I have a question for 21st cetury toys tho... can you release this tank with a Panzer crew or at least one figure that has a Panzer wrap jacket? I have a million of those that are pictured with the new KT and I never had a chance to get the S1 figure with the panzer / tanker gear... I was hoping one of the last new 18 figs would be a panzer wrap.. maybe its the Deaths head that is too offensive. Oh and while I'm at it please re-release the fallschirmjager as well

This is great news! My hats off to the folks at 21st, this is one badass looking model. I may have to start off with 3... the series 1 paint scheme, one the paint scheme I choose and one to Cut Up and make Jagdtiger.

nice job 21st Century. With the next FOV Tiger 1 due out in the fall and this KT, it will be good year for armor.

Before you decide there is no engine detail, look at the picture of the rear...the engine hatch is cracked open a bit and has hinges...Now it may end up like the panther with just an empty compartment, but I bet there will be engine detail.
The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

Awsome tank ! ... + = 8) ........ I don't really mind that it may not have all of the finer details like : No engine , no interior or zimmermit. You never know yet though , it's still in the engineering & pre-production phase and not done yet. ... I'm just happy for the fact "we have new armor" now , and I can see , and I'm hoping we'll get to see , future variants on the same chassis someday. I'm also hoping the paint schemes they plan for this wil be just as awsome. + = 8) .............. What a Masterpiece ! ... 21st.Century. :D

PLEASE FORGET THE FRICKIN ZIMMERIT!
Zimmerit was applied to all tanks and closed-top self-propelled guns produced from about August 1943 to September 1944.

Only the first few King Tigers had it before it was discontinued. By the time the King Tiger was at the Battle of the Buldge, Zimmerit was no longer applied. and again, before you decide there is no engine detail, look at the picture of the rear...the engine hatch is cracked open a bit and it has hinges...

Thanks for the update and clearing this up there "Yoxford". + 8) = :D ...... I guess the little 32x version and it's sister , w/ Porsche turret w/o "zimmermit" would pass inspection then. + = 8)

The bell-shaped mantlet will limit what paint scheme/numbering this Kingtiger could have.

As for the zimmerit, if you want a KT that was in Normandy, or the battle of France, or during the Soviet offensives during the fall of 1944, zimmerit is needed.

Plus there are a few zimmerit-covered Kingtigers during the battle of the Bulge.

And all Porsche KTs have the zimmerit.

Yep! all those too. Forgot about the KV 1. Oh yeah and how about a Puma and Matilda. Hell, I'd like to see a Japanese or French tank as well. Even Italian. Something different.

LOOKS GOOD.
I'm with Yoxford on the zimmermit. I'm pretty sure most KT were without it anyway.

Also why would you not want the bell-shaped mantlet?

The big question is which - and please be one - of the SS 501st paint schemes we get. 8)

Because most Kingtigers photographed have the stepped mantlet.

So for example, If you want a BoB KT, the only KTs in the 501st that had that bell mantlet was the 332 and 204.

(There could be more, I'm not sure so please feel free to correct me and show pics please. :D )

Well there could be more, but most of the Tigers photographed in that battle has the more common stepped mantlet.

And a lot of famous Tiger battalions have used KTs with zimmerits.

Like the S.Pz.Abt. 503, 505, 501 (not ss.S.Pz.Abt 501st).

Bell or stepped mantlet? Are we Talking Henchel and Porche turrets here? Lets get it right. Both had zimmermit. Porche was Hitlers favorite he started production with the Tiger 2 it was prone to breakdowns. :? I think about 20 were made. The Henchel was more reliable and it became the production run. What to do with the left over turrets? :? They used them on the Henchel chassis. Another reason for the limited use of the Porche turrets they were shot traps. Savy Allied gunners would shoot under the chins and shot would be deflected downward into the driver and radio operators position. The same happend to the earlier Panthers so they came out with the chin mantlet. The Henchel was flat faced and this was not a problem. :D

Statistics :

Total Tiger II production # by the end of Mar. 45' .

Accepted by Inspector : 492 units

Delivered for issue : 442 units

The total production run continued through this period for a total of ( 3 ) prototypes and ( 489 ) production series Tiger II's produced by Henschel. ... Due to heavy Allied bombing , Henschel ceased all tank production by the end of March 1945.

GooglyDoogly is quite right and if 21Century made one of the S.Pz Albt. 505th charging Knight paint versions, I would hope zimmerit was applied.

BUT, my point to all this was, it is obvious there is no zimmerit on the test mold and so forget about the zimmerit and move on. I will be more concerned with Zimmerit paste on the special edition Wittmann Tiger 1 Nr. 007

I am just happy 21Century is moving forward on this panzer.

Trust me that the Tiger I mold is farther along than the Tiger II. We don't even know if the Tiger II has been tooled yet...

Anyway, I don't mind if there are a lack of reference photos as it allows for more variety/creativity. I would much rather have the more common version though.

The King Tiger shown on AREA-21 is in plastic. The photos are called "first shots" meaning that it is the first test of the mold being used in real life plastic. Thus the model is VERY far along indeed. The crazy colors of plastic (like my Pink Pak-40) are a result of the factory using whatever they have on hand and ready at the time to use as material. Thus first shots are often multi colored or brightly colored plastic. We will see the King Tiger very soon I suspect. as for variations... well I would not count 21st out on that idea at all. If my memory serves me correctly we just saw 4 variations on the line up of halftracks with another still on the way.
