That Avenger is butchery. The word "custom" (obviously used for lack of a better term) lends too much credence to the work done. The paint scheme is an abomination.
(If it would have been posted on the Custom forum here I would not have commented at all obviously, but since it's on eBay it's open game).
Don't hold back...tell us your true feelings.

But seriously, I wouldn't know a proper Avenger paintscheme from a complete fraud, so I really can't make any judgements in that regard, all I can tell you is I have a brand new in box Atlantic Avenger that I plan to unload at my earliest opportunity. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool looking plane and all, but I simply don't have the space to store or display the beast.

I asked the seller for a more detailed photo of the plane out of the box.
I am curious how good/bad the paint job is...

Seller's description:
"The TBF-1 Avenger by 21st Century 1/18 scale BLUE #29 ,with 3 action figures."
Why did you report him? He doesn't say anything about it being a new or different. Like he is trying to pass it off as a new scheme. He has- Condition: Mint in Box above his own description which is a tad misleading.

I just reported it to ebay as a misrepresentation.
Doubt you'll get very far with that, but I suppose it's worth a try if you feel that strongly about it. I've seen far more egregious misrepresentations on the bay in my time, and it really boils down to this: descriptions of items are highly subjective and open to interpretation and unless something is grossly misreresented or outright fraudulent it's unlikely you are going get much action from the e-bay folks. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say in response though, so do let us know how you make out.

Well I for one wouldn’t have wasted my time to report it but…I certainly would be pissed if I received it in the mail thinking it was an original, new in box item, only to find out some monkey had painted it. I think that would be a case for some bad feedback. Remember, he didn’t post the questions on his auction so the only folks who know what it is are right here.

Good point, the problem is the guy never says one way or the other, so you're kind of "on your own" so to speak... from what I can see he doesn't say it's an original or a custom, he merely says it's blue...and it is blue, no denying that. A case of buyer beware I'm afraid.

That's how I kind of see it too. He isn't really doing something against the "rules". It's up to the bidder/buyer to be sure in what he is getting.
I am not an expert on Avenger color schemes and therefore I find the color to my liking. (I can't see it all close enough to say - I would buy it) But he did post another picture of the plane to show the paint job better. If he were hiding something he would NOT post another picture.
Anyway... I know what it's like to "be reported" on Ebay. It's not fun to find your auction taken down and have NO access to it what so ever to even change something that could have been changed.
I would have emailed him and asked him to put CUSTOM or NEW PAINT JOB in his description before I reported him. I think Ebay works well if everyone cares and communication is done between Seller/Buyer or Seller/Seller before the Ebay Cops are called in to regulate the situation.
If your neighbor was having a loud party, would you call the cops right away or try and tell that neighbor to please reduce the noise???

Back in the days, when my neighbor had a loud party, I took it as an invitation to join in.
Tanks for the memories
Your breachblocks so black
And oodles of track
Here at Grafenwoehr it's so good to be back
Oh, tanks for the memories..

I don't think this is a custom, this guy has a lot of stuff up at his e-bay store, I see it all the time and I've never seen him offer a custom of anything, besides it says "year of release 2007" so it must be a new release that has yet to show up at the brick and mortar retailers like WM, or the e-tailers like Badcat etc.

It would be even sweeter if they had it in 1/18 scale.

Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller
