In addition to straight prop blades, it has black tires as opposed to the cloud gray the other "new tool" Mustangs have. I think the new Tuskeegee Mustang has black tires too. From the picture on BadCat's website it appears to have a little weathering or either stains on top of the wings. The one thing that might possibly trouble me is that from the pictures I've seen it appears that the supposed red outline looks like a deep pink color. I thought (at least from all pictures I've seen of the restores Stang's in BBD livery) that this planes colors were red, white, and black. Not pink, white, and black. I've seen my friend's original release BBD and his has pink. TKO (if you're reading this thread), am I wrong? Is this new BBD going to be pink or red?
Thanks
Thanks

VMF-115, I have the Flying Undertaker and Ridge Runner both. Ya know I've thought many times about painting the tires but never got around to doing it or even thinking deep enough about how to make them look more realistic than pure black. It seems the real color is slightly off from black...what type of paint did you use? Enamel? Acrylic? any weathering? I just thought of a random question. What type of paint is used from the factory that the three 1:18 makers use for the livery and any other colors? Anyone know?

I used Acrylic Flat Black and just Brushed them on. they look good
If you have the precision small screwdriver set “you know the really small ones, you take the smallest flat head, wiggle it under the metal tab, it should come out a little bit then using a small pair of pliers pull it out.
The tail wheel is just as easy.

Man thats one beautiful paint scheme. And thats one reason why I'm gonna buy it. BBD has always been a favorite P-51 of mine. You see this plane featured in so many paintings, books ect that you can hardly miss it if your a fan of the Mustang. I would love to see the one they have flying at Duxford but since its over in England I wont get a chance to see it anytime soon. Someday though you can bet on that! I dont know if I'll be ordering it from Bad Cat though because Historic Aviation will be carrying them as well as Old Crow and since Historic is only about 10 min from my house I will be buying them there. But thanks goes to Bad Cat for showing a photo of it because now I want it more then ever.

That is one sharp looking plane! Also a very tempting one
It looks to be of an actual example and not a paint master. Still, I'll be curious to know if it actually comes with the weathering. I just might have to pass this one up due to having too many Mustangs already and the fact that I really want the "Old Crow" plane

Thanks I will do that right now.USCGSARdog wrote:Thats a cool mod VMF115. I will add that to my to do list.
You should post it over on the Customs & Mods page, under the Tips & Tricks thread. That way more people would see it.
Good stuff!

They also have the squad/plane designation wrong on the starboard side, then of course the canopy is way off, so any new versions are going to replace the old.Rowsdower wrote:BBD is definitely not one of my favorite Mustang schemes but its good to see that 21st has corrected their past mistakes with the P-51.
But I still think they're missing the boat on a lot of the important B's and C's - just a few notables:
Ding Hao - James Howard's B model. A Medal of Honor winner (the only fighter pilot in the ETO to get one)
Shnagri La - Don Gentile's famous plane and a perfect pair with the "Donnie Boy" P-47
Pattie II - Thornell's, although it is another blue nose.
Tex Hill's 23rd FG plane (hurry while he's still with us, please!)
Alice in Wonderland - Bochkay's early mount.
And those are just the aces.
You bet!!! And there are other P-51's sharing the unit markings of BBD. How cool would it have been to add to your collection, instead of just replacing something that you'd already paid for?Flytiger wrote:They also have the squad/plane designation wrong on the starboard side, then of course the canopy is way off, so any new versions are going to replace the old.Rowsdower wrote:BBD is definitely not one of my favorite Mustang schemes but its good to see that 21st has corrected their past mistakes with the P-51.

Looking at the photo of BBD on the Bad Cat website I hope that what we see in the photo is what we get. I like the weathered look they have on the wings and so fourth. Its one beauty of a paint scheme I will say again and I cant wait for its release along with Old Crow.
