Alternative vehicles....??

Post by ostketten » Sat Mar 10, 2007 8:14 am

What about some new XD vehicle models based on existing chassis? For example, our XD Panzer IV tank could easily be made in to a Wirbelwind Flakpanzer, the turret already exists in the 32X model and could probably be scaled up without too much difficulty. One idea might be an M247 "Sgt. York" DIVAD gun based on our XD M48 Patton tank chassis...?? Yes... it was a failed system, primarily due to technical troubles with the radar and fire control systems, and the inability of the M48 chassis to match the speed of the new Bradley IFV, and only some 50 examples of the M247 were ever produced, but it's still a cool looking vehicle IMO. You guys got any other ideas for "alternative" vehicles based on existing models?? BTW, the below pic is of a 1/35 scale model some guy has up on e-bay for $100.....

It seems very strange to me that 21st hasn't taken advantage of their excellent 1:18 chassis and hulls to create variations.

A few I'd like to see:

Jagdpanzer IV
Stug IV
Brumbar
Nashorn
Wirbelwind
Mobelwagen

Jagdpanther

Sturmtiger

But if they would produce a Pz III, Opel Blitz and Sd Kfgz 7, my life would be complete, 8)

Just the countless variations of the Sherman would make for some interesting material and provide some variation for WWII US forces. As it sits now, including product announced at ToyFair, we have one US tank and 2 half-tracks up against at leas 5 German tanks, 4 half-tracks, and two artillery pieces (counting RC versions and variants but not counting repaints). Of course, a 1:18 Stuart, Pershing, Hellcat, and some Brit armor would be nice, too...

Yes, I would love to see an XD Sherman E8, the so-called "easy eight", but I suppose that would involve changing the supension on the 21st Sherman to the HVSS type...??

just a matter of time i warrant. A wirblewind is the most likely of all. The short barreled PIV came out of nowhere, so it could happen at any time. Keep sharp.

I'd take anything new in armor whether it be from a modified existing chassis or a completely new sculpt.

YES, tons of planes and 7 new ones announced since Jan 07 and what, 2 vehicles, a KT and 88.

We need more trucks, armored cars (both sides) and much more tanks

for some reason the variants are not being done?? Half the hulls and drive lines are already done. I would have thought variants would be easy money makers at half the tooling costs.

Sometimes 21C seems to be listening. We have been whining for years to male additional models from existing chasis toys, and BLAM, out comes the M-16, the Gerry half-tracks......so they listen.....I hope they are listening.

You can't leave out the Walker Bulldog with the Duster I believe it is called. If not, someone can correct me. Also the M113 versions to many to list. Also how hard would it be to take the M48 Patton and turn it into the M60? Could lead to the M1 they have stated way back. Just some ideas.

The hull and suspension on the M48 and the M60 are considerably different, they'd have to re-do the hull entirely for it look right I'm afraid.

Bridge layers and ARVs based on M-48's or even a M-48A5 with a 105mm!

As FieroDude suggested there are a tonne of Sherman builds out there the Firefly key among them.

As for momaw nadon and M-113 idea, this is well overdue and as far I as I can tell from the pictures I've seen all the modernisation parts on the M-113s seem to be tooled seperately and thus a retro version would be very simple for 21stCT to do, but I suspect there maybe some kind of platoon related thing going on here already. I'd even go as far to say if 21stCT had released the Vietnam version first then the M-113 sales would have been far better.

Lastly a command and control version of the LAV know down here as an ASLAV which also comes in an ARV and medical versions.

I second your suggestion for the Duster! If I'm not mistaken, it was used by the US in Viet Nam.

Tman:

The M-19 Duster with twin 40mm's was based on a lengthened M-24 Chafee light tank chasis. It was used from Apr. 45 to the end of the Korean War.

The M-42 Duster with twin 40mm's was based on the M-41 Bulldog tank chasis. It was made from 1952 to 1959 and the M-42 was used in Vietnam.

The main difference between the two was the placement of the 40mm gun tub. If I am correct, the M-19 gun tub was at the rear of the chasis with engine in front. The M-42 had the gun tub at the front of the chasis.

BTW, while I was in VN, there were two Dusters operating in my AO. Mostly as convoy guards. I do remember one afternoon when the two Dusters pulled up (one on each side) to a stage we had where some super Holy Joe was making an apearance and those 40mm guns were pointed at us, in the audience of 5,000 armed GI's......go figure.

How about not only the tank chassis, but what about the Jeep and Kubel. I could think of a few models to be made. One comes to mind more than others for both: Medic version or maybe a LRDG version of the Jeep and Africa Korp for the Kubel with the ballon tires. Depending on how far they think of base they could make a Scout car from the Halftrack front and retool the rear. All with the small budgets.

Jeeps do not do well on e-bay. You can't give the Nam version away with the M-60 set up. I got one at Walmart for $5 :!:

G'day Pickelhaube

Well so far the M60 Mutts Ive bid have all gone for around US$15, so I'd love some of the US$5 action you mentioned the one that I am currently bidding on is at US$8.50 and I suspect it will go higher still.

I beg to differ. The MB Jeeps goes for a nice price on ebay. Last time I looked was about $25 average. Same with the Kubelwagens. The Mutt with M60 are wanted more than the one with TOW launcher. The one you got a WM was the TOW version, correct? I don't remember the M60 selling a Wally World other than the SEAL Tac Jeep, which was not that great in the first place. And that had two SAWs over the one M60 that the Mutt had.

I think a Jeep (WWII Willy's version) with added front armor, armored doors, and a 50cal over the 30cal, would be a big hit. As would many of WWII Jeep versions. Plus I think a medic version of any jeep/truck with litters and racks would sell well too. Would take almost nothing in tooling cost to do also. Even with the top up like 21st C had on there web site for a while of the Kubelwagen with a top up would sell really well and in a Jeep too.

Hey guys . I think anything medic related would sell well. :D Why don't they do it. :?: The M.A.S.H. helo , Huey medic helo and a medic jeep would be a hit. But I guess the power brokers do not. :?
