Spinach Bf-109-How rare?

Post by 9th Waffen SS » Fri Mar 02, 2007 9:20 am

Seeing all this talk about rare Mustangs on some other discussions, I was wondering what the rarity of the early release Bf-109 "Spinach" was? I have one of these, and am kinda curious the current value of them. And, just how rare are they?

Mine is out of box, in mint condition, and on display in my living room. I am not really that enamored with it, so I might move it if the value is up there. I like the later "G" model 109's better anyway.

Thanks all for any input. Being out of the 1/18 stuff for a few years now, I am playing a bit of catch-up on the state of the market and hobby.

The thread "rarest Mustang" that was recently opened covers this pretty good already. You could get probably $150+ for a loose one in mint cond.

2 were sold last month...1 for 152.50 and 1 for 115. They come up on ebay but not often. A few a year.

They were at one time going for more than $200 but that was several years ago. I guess the value has gone down a bit.

After seeing the explanation on the listing, I have a question.
Does the husband know he is downsizing his collection?

zu lange vertröstet zu lange belogen
Verraten und verkauft,
Durch den Dreck und über den Tisch gezogen.

That 70 dollar one was loose w/o the box and not described as rare Spinach camo - hence the lower price. Wish I would have seen that - 70 is a goooood deal for that plane. What about the 1/18th ambush panther? How much is that going for now?

Yeah it's all in how the seller lists it and if it gets listed in the right category. Several years ago I bought a S1 109E loose on ebay for $5 plus shipping. The gal had it listed in the "pez" category. The spinach plane was a club exclusive alegedly although not sure how Hungates Hobbies got them which is where I got mine...

It was not a club exclusive but it was sold through the club. They were at online retailers too. I remember the Spinach at GoodStuff for the longest time with their usual great prices. Same with the Ambush actually. If I knew then...

Still have my club catalogs from 21st from 2001. The spinach 109 was $34.99 and the ambush Panther was $39.99. Wish I would've gotten the Panther...

Thanks guys, this has been very helpful.

For $75 or so that it will fetch, I think I will hold onto it.

I remember buying it, and thinking "Wonder if I should get 2"...
