F-104 "Smoke II" question...

Post by ostketten » Fri Mar 02, 2007 7:17 am

Picked up a NIB "Smoke II" F-104 at a local WM yesterday, the odd thing was that it came in a German Marineflieger F-104G box :?: I don't really collect XD stuff all that much, especially aircraft, but it seemed kind of odd and interesting, so I bought it. My question is this...is it some kind of oddity/factory mistake kind of thing, or is this completely normal?? On a related note, I found this auction at e-bay this AM, and the guy is clearly stating that this is a "factory mistake" and whether that's actually true or not he stands to make a pretty tidy profit on this thing if anybody decides to put in a bid.

This has been discussed over many times in the forum. 21C apparently sent them all in the German box from China. It is kind of a neat mistake to have.

Hmmm... I must have missed that...... as I said I don't really collect XD much, especially planes. I may just hang on to it though, it does look sort of cool.

I picked up a Smoke II F-104 a few weeks ago at Walmart. It was in the German Starfighter box.

All of the Smoke IIs I have ever seen in Walmarts were boxed in the german boxes...

Saw one at a WM in Rogers, AR before Christmas in the standard green box. They also had a Flying Undertaker Mustang which I yet to see at any other WM in my AO.

I got may Smoke from BadCat and it was in the German box too. My S1 104 is the only one I have in a different box. I haven't got the two new ones yet, so I can't speak on them.

I personally don't like "smoke" in the German box, to me detracts from the German plane being a "special edition" and all... I also got mine from Bad Cat in the German box.

Thanks for all the input gents. It will be interesting to see if the e-bay guy gets big bucks for his "factory mistake"
