I agree that the 21c comment about schemes is a non-starter. Don't know why they would have thrown that one out there. Besides the nato cammo there was also solid green - 4 main basecoats to work with!

I saw an A-10 in action at an air show for the first time a few years ago. Unbelievable how that thing could fly. Stunting, diving, going straight up then standing on its nose, it was unlike anything I've seen. Just crazy what those straight wings make it capable of. I swear it was outmanuevering the biplanes in the show!

Come on now, you have to put the A-10 in there above the A-7. After all, it beat the A-7 like a dog in a fly off for the attack role.... :D

The A-10 is going through some changes to become the A-10C. It will be able to deliver precision weapons like the others. Finally getting a glass cockpit. Hope they find the funding to do the engine upgrade it deserves as well. That will give it even better performance.

Did you know that A-10 pilots have been shown ways to target airborne threats with their AGM-65 Mavericks. Although none have ever been used in this manner, it's a pretty neat tactic.
Sorry " VMF115 slaps his Head" should of had a V 8
Yes the A-10 should be on my list

......well I did have reason for the F-111 statement last night but!

Actually I have to go out this morning reference book shopping so I'll have to give you my reasons for the bold F-111 statement when I get back.

But do not expect any earth shattering revilations, till then, then

Looks like there are six paint schemes being used between Corgi and Hobbymaster on their 1/72 A-10s that will be out this year.

Seems like plenty of schemes to me and there are still more possibilities and variations than that...

With those, and the JAWS II Scheme that would make 7 versions. Not mention the various nosearts and specialty craft. I'd really like to see the battle damaged one that was flown back to base after a missle hit. It was flown by a female Captain. It could be the first 1/18 fighter with a woman pilot wouldn't that make it more collectable?

Sadly, I'm sure that's what we would be seeing on 21st's site instead of the Phantom if Admiral wasn't making a Phantom.

I wanted to update this a bit. I've included examples of the different schemes of the A-10. Keep in mind that there also some birds out there that have unique individual markings like "Lets Roll" or the two Mig killer A-10s from the Gulf War. Of course you can have an infinite variety of weapon's loads. This would be the aircraft to have a displayable engine and opening doors to show off the 30mm "gatling gun"

Image

The Alaskan A-10s not a favorite of mine.
(Note that some pictures have been reversed to make a more uniform appearance, hence the backwards lettering.)

Image

One of many sky grey A-10 schemes. Some units have very nice markings associated with them such as the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.

Image

European Camo Scheme for the post Iraqi A-10s. This one is from the 23rd Fighter Group from Barksdale Louisiana. They are the grand children of the "Flying Tigers" this is signified by the shark mouth.
Image

The JAWS scheme used temporarily by the 57th Fighter Wing.

Image

A proposed desert scheme that was proposed but not accepted after trials.

Image

My favorite scheme the "D-Day" 50th Aniversary A-10, note the Invasion Stripes.

It seems that there are quite a few schemes to paint. I myself, would like the solid grey or Forrest Camo. The JAWS scheme looks as if it was used as a paintball target. Nice to capture the 21C news. I agree, only if they would let us know and announce it already.
