Yeah it's hard to say. Alot of buyers only bid on paypal auctions but then again, if someone wants something bad enough they march to the post office for a money order, I know I do. This is where you have to rely on the sellers feedback as far as protection goes. I know I can vouch for the seller :P . Then again alot of buyers don't participate in reserve auctions, I rarely do. The whole PP protection thing erks me anyway, I've personally had 2 instances with bad sellers, most recent issue to over a month to get the money back and it was not because Paypal did anything. The first time took over a year, yes a year and only because I wouldn't cease and desist on bugging Paypal about where my money was. So, I take PP protection policies with a grain of salt.

Good move, I, for one, won't use PP for sizeable items, and won't allow foreign buyers, just too many hassles.

I was on the other end with PP, I had a dispute that excalated to a claim when the nutjob seller I was dealing with got totally irrational. PP gave me a full rufund including the shipping. I paid to return the item but was glad to do it to be rid of this nutjob. Serves me right for dealing with the "dark side" (1/6)........they're just so damn neat....

Good luck with your son's plane. Whatever he gets is going to make somebody happy.

I have always used postal money orders for stuff I buy on ebay. I have had great luck using them.

I totaly disagree. He will not get the money that you get with pay-pal buyers. This was a big mistake to change the auction. :? A few days will tell.

I never use PPal

Post by nfafan » Tue Feb 27, 2007 6:23 pm

Its' bad enough ebay wants a cut, then PPal takes their cut.

I'm a casual seller that clears shelf-space every now and then; I can be happy just getting my money back from selling something on ebay, but I'll be darned if I'm going to "pay someone" to buy something at a bargain price from me.

And as you folks have found out, PPal can turn around on you and take the payment back on behalf of a fickle buyer. Maybe I've lost a few bids over time due to No PPal, but at least I kept most of my sale money.

Like I said it's hard to say. He intends to fight Paypal tooth and nail over them taking the money, especially since he has a bonifide federal document that states the items were shipped. It's hit and miss on ebay, as long as he gets $400 he'll be happy and if the mess with Paypal clears up prior to the end of the auction he'll likely accept it for payment, but, from buyers in the US or I guess Canada only...That was a smart move there I think. It still floors me how PP can take your money when you have proof you shipped the items. It's so damn ludicrous, it's so unbelievable, it's unbelievable. To have to show proof of delivery is just plain ignorant, like I said how in the hell can PP hold you responsible for how well the postal service does their job? If he don't at least talk to a lawyer about it I believe I will. For them to keep a sellers money and allow the buyer to keep the items is just stealing in my book. I asked about insurance on the stuff, the guy didn't want it! Hmmm, makes you wonder. But like I said, if someone wants something bad enough they'll get a money order. I think the main reason people are hooked on PP is they can use their credit cards, which is a risk for the seller as well. A buyer can dispute with their cc company and theres good ole PP yanking the money back from the seller. It's a shame they've gone to hell, used to be a pretty good company till greedbay got involved.

Yep its up to $320 so taking out the paypal thing has not effected it one bit. I think he will get $400 or more before all is said and done. I'm very interested on what the final bid will be because it gives me some idea what the value of Tender Terror will be. Again I have no interest in selling mine but I'm just curious to see what one will spend just to get it. So far it looks like some people will spend big bucks.

WOW  ...kids bird up to $370! Nice. He did get a email from a previous bidder of the first auction, a real pouter from the sound of it. Something about I bid Xamt on the first auction but won't bid ever again on your stuff or something like that. Woopeedooo I told him. He explained to all the bidders why was doing what he was doing I mean geez. Guy apparantly more of a cry baby then a serious collector. Guess he can run to WM and get one, no, wait, it's a limited release! :P :P If a person can't understand when someone is just trying to protect themselves after just getting robbed then who needs them as a customer ya know. Man can't wait to see what it brings...

My boy ended it early and it has been relisted with 2 days to go. He had to end early so could change it to no Paypal and no overseas shipping as just got jabbed by a buyer in Poland via Paypal.

27 mins 9 secs is all thats left on the bidding on Tender Terror and its up to $400 and some change. Unless the Ebay sharks come out at the last minute I think thats where it will end. It may not hit the $500 mark but some good money was made.

Some may ask why am I so interested in this auction. Well it just gave me some insight to how valuable Tender Terror really is and it makes me even more prouder to have one.

Anyone else remotely thinking of putting their Terror's on the auction block? I know I'm not because if I was going to sell it I would have already and I had an offer of $600 which I turned down! Stupid? Maybe but this Mustang means alot to me plus this coming weekend she will go on display at my local Hobby Show.

Ended at ~$412 - not bad! I'm guessing that as more people come to understand how rare/unique the plane is, the price will slowly go up. Might have gotten a few more bids if paypal had been accepted from the beginning, but who knows. Anyway, congrats to the seller and the buyer! I told my wife how much it was up to last night - her response when she saw mine sitting off to the side? SELL IT!

Hey Lefty, Are we in a time warp or something. My wife said the same thing and I agree with you. I think if he had put pay-pal back on it would have gone for $75 to $100 more. But I have read his reasons for doing so. Luckly I have never been stung like he has. :?

$412? Not bad indeed. I agree if the paypal thing would have worked it would have maybe gone for more, who knows? Congrats to the seller for making a good amount of money on this rare bird and congrats to the buyer. I wonder if he or she knows how lucky they are? I got a tounge lashing from my dad when I turned down the $600 offer but I still didnt budge.

Yeah, pretty good profit at $412 even after figuring the overhead, cost of the 190's, gas, time, etc. I do think he's experiencing a little sellers remorse though...tried to tell him. Boy that buyer better be johnny-on-the-spot with paying..no dough come the 8th day and he's lost it I do know that...Pisses me off still about Paypal, I bet it would've brought more had this whole incident with that polish buyer filing a bogus complaint and pp taking his money thing not happened. He would've left the original listing alone and I think it'd brought closer to $500, or more. Just figures something like that happens while selling something like this. After a little research the only folks pp really protects are buyers, which is good if all you do is buy but if you're a big time seller then watch out. You get all kinds of good info on the ebay forums and the like. The most successful PP sellers don't ship to the unprotected countries unless they buyers send cash or some kind of mo, good idea, let them take the risk. I think the "what if" factor is going to eat him alive though, hope not but he's been stewing over it. Screw it I say, made good money...

So will someone own up to selling this one as well? This one looks legit, but if someone has some info that would put my mind at ease, I would be much appreciative.
