WW 2 Russian planes

Any Russian plane fans out there? What are your favorites? My top three are:
1. Mig-3
2. Stormavik
3. Yak-3
The Mig-3 was a very fast plane . I think even faster than the Mustang. And cool looking to boot.
This should go under the heading : Planes that we will never see in 1/18 scale.

I am a huge fan of Russian WW2 airplanes. But I also like planes like the American made P-39 in Russian markings. I hope we see some Russian fighters one day.

I think that the Russians used the P-39 more than us. They certanly liked them more. They also used them for tank busting and ground support. Not as a fighter and had great success with them. If they would have saved some of the turbo chargers and not put them in the P-38 this WOULD have been a top fighter.

I am a Big Russian fan, I think the Il-2 is simply beautiful, and should have been done a long time ago.

Same goes for La-5/La-7, Yaks, LaGG's, and Mig-3. The T-34 and IS-2 should also be done.

I don’t understand the neglect to anything Russian, and I dont see any reason why not to make anything Russian. IMO, they played a bigger role in WWII then any other allied country, and if it's about looks, then Russia accels there as well. Compare the IL-2 and Stuka, what looks more like an airplane?

21st Century Toys sort-of broke the Russian barrier with the Mig-15, but it seems that it was made as a Korean plane, not a Russian one, to go with the Sabre. Also, why does the Sabre have seatbelts, and the Mig does not? They were made at the same time.

One more thing about 21stCT bugs me, they made a Macchi in 1/32 before anything Russian?

I think Russia did more than Italy did...

i would like the flying tank, (any variation) as well as a P-39 in both u.s. and soviet markings. and maybwe a yak 3/9 (K!) variant.

Yikes !!! That is a question Aferguson should answer. I heard a story on the History Chanel or Discovery about the Stormaviks.. That when they were building them they made so much of them that they wore out the drill bits drilling fo the rivets that the rivets did work. So they drove them in with hammers causring small fatigue cracks in the wing skins and when put under combat strains the skins came off in flight.

I think the Russian planes would be great as far as a collectors standpoint. I will not mention anymore because the good ones have already been posted as they would be the ones I would want too. I would add two more to the list, the I-16 (strange looking, unique airplane) and a Hurricane in Russian markings and possibly a P-40, they would be great additions.

I think the problem with making Russian planes is purely political. There are a lot of people out there that still view Russia as the Soviet Union and are stuck in the Cold War mindset. Recently around here, Mobil stations changed over to the Lukoil brand and people are boycotting the gas stations because they are quote "Run by the Soviets". Unfortunately, given the nature of the Cold War, I think it will be some time yet before people are able to put away the mindset that the Russians are not evil and the Cold War for almost all intensive purposes is over. I say almost over as there is still some issues that are ongoing that will take time to resolve.

Unfortunately people are not as historically intelligent as we are. While all of us appericate Russian airplanes and the contributions they made to our war effort, I feel the average public does not know a lot about this. They know a lot about our airplanes and German airplanes and Japanese airplanes. In this country, it seems our European theater and the Pacific theater are very popular. The Eastern front, and the men and machines that took part in those high casualty battles in the dead of winter deserve credit that is due. Without Russia's help, we would not have won World War II. Unfortunately due to world events after World War II, many people forget that.

I hope one day the companies we love take the chance and produce the stuff!

I like the Yak-11, mainly 'cuz they were brought over in the late '80s to be air racers!! Whoever thought of stuffing a big Wright 3350 into a plane that small was pure genious!! What I heard was that there is a company over in Russia that has put the Yak-11s back into production in the last few years!! What a hoot!

I agree on the Huricane. My prediction is that will be the next British plane built . If they choose to do another British plane .Has anybody heard of a Spit in Rusky markings? That would be cool to.

But they aren't Russian planes. They are Soviet planes. Still, I agree that with all the misconceptions we sided with the Soviets against the Nazis--and we still see no reluctance to sell the Nazi stuff in WalMart of all places. I guess it's the fact that we were at "war" with the Soviets for a very long time (and some misinformed general populace would have believed the stakes were much higher).

Not to get off topic but Russia is not being to friendly to the US and is slipping back into a dictatorship. Has the cold war really ended or has it just changed tactics?

As for telling the difference between German and Russian or Soviet aircraft I think it would be easy just look for the red star or the German Cross

Moth: I kid you not, I heard Ann Coulter say just a couple years ago that we are still at war with the Communists! (Of course, I cracked up laughing when I heard that.) There is no doubt that people fixate on the stupidest things, and most of those who still worry about the Soviet Union have not a clue as to what the entire affair was about and will only be able to say, "Because they are evil." BTW, I do not make a habit out of listening to what Ann Coulter has to say!!

VMF: Of course it's easy to tell the Soviet planes! They look just like the Americans!!!

The first time I saw a picture of the MiG-3, I thought it was a P-51!!

VMF: Of course it's easy to tell the Soviet planes! They look just like the Americans!!! The first time I saw a picture of the MiG-3, I thought it was a P-51!!

Not to mention the B-29 look alike and the c-47 look alike. Those were out and out copies of the originals

But I am not trying to slam Russian planes. Something about the Big red star just seems kind of evil and cool at the same time. I guess to much brain washing back in the 60's.
