Dragon Warbirds

Hello again all, as I mentioned in one of my first posts, I'm still pretty new to the collecting world. I currently collect 1/72 WWII figures and armor and have been looking at getting into some aircraft. I've seen pics of the the Dragon Warbird line and it looks great. I would like some of your input on the quality of the line and what pieces are particulary good. What's the metal content like? Also, are there options for positioning the landing gear up or down and canopy open or closed? Sorry for all the questions, just want the most bang for my buck!

In my humble opinion - there is nothing comparable for the money.
Open/closed canopy, movable flaps on tail, wings, landing gear up/down are options on each plane. The paint schemes are well done (some folks complain about the lack of the swastika on the tail of the Axis planes).
Body panels are apparently washed with some type of black removable wash to highlight the lines between the panels (nicely done, especially on the Mitsubishi Zero).

With respect to the World War II stuff .... they are all nice
the Mustangs are nice, the P-47's are exceptional (I think), the Zero's (especially the one with the simulated Japanese carrier deck display and the Rabaul - green camouflage version) are nice, the Fw-190's are nice but getting a lil' repetitive and the Me-109s also

(Note - CyberHobby Exclusive Fw-190 'Graf' is really nice)

Modern planes ....
F-18's are nice - especially the most recently released 'Chippy Ho' with the weathering/wear-and-tear effects is impressive
F-16's are consistently nice ('Wolfpack', 'Each Flight Like a Tiger' and Belgian 'Tiger Meet')

I agree.. I collect mostly 1/72 stuff and the Dragon aircraft are superior..

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to order a couple, I really like the looks of the P-47s too! I wonder if they ever might venture into some 1/72 bombers like a B-25 or B-17.

Easy8, I think they already have produced some of the bigger planes you mentioned. Check out www.theflyingmule.com. I stumbled across that site a few weeks back...

Corgi is producing the B-25 this year and also makes the B-17, B-24, He-111 and others.. Dragon doesn't make these yet..

I consider Dragon to be well made and reasonably priced. I wish they made an F-18 from Enduring Freedom or Iraqi Freedom though. I wish their German fighters had swastikas on their tails, but I know Dragon wanted to avoid trouble regarding that and left them off. One thing they can do is make more Bf109 flown by other countries such as Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Israel (yes Israel, in 1948), Finland, etc. The Italian Bf109 was a good start. Can't wait to see what they will show at Toy Fair...

Have any of you guys tried modifying the Dragon planes by putting pilot figures in the cockpits? Or is that even a possibility with them being pre-built? Just curious.
