With the news of the 1:18 21st P-38 'California Cutie' coming out this year, I got to thinking. Do you think 21st would ever consider coming out with one for Glacier Girl? That plane is very local and pretty special to me cause of that and I'd like to have one in 1:18 if they ever decided to make it. So you think they would? I am sure more people out there besides me would be interested in it.

It was under 270 ft of ice in Greenland, among 5 other P-38s and 2 B-17s. I don't think it was ever used in combat, it was being flown over to England to start its combat career when the crew got lost and had to land in Greenland, then after their rescue the planes got left behind. I am not sure on that though. They sale 1:64 scale versions of it at the museum over there (and I have one), but I would like to have it in 1:18 scale.
I think in a few years they may work thier way to making it, just because of the story behind it and it is one of very few P-38s thats still flying today. Even if it is a limited edition run just for the museum (which runs entirely off donations).

Hey i have a cool story, since they have gotten that to fly before, my friend flys A-10s, and is the Flight Instructor for them, and he got to fly in formation with the Glacier Girl P-38!!! He met the Pilot too, and said it was a great experiance, and yes a glacier girl p-38 would be awesome!

Glacier Girl is a E model IIRC, and 21st has a L/J model.
Completely different cowlings.
I wish they would build the earlier model since it looks so much better.
Also with Glacier Girl retracing her fateful flight and ending up in the UK, there will be some hype promoting the Girl.

Ah yes, shes a F model, and the 21st is the J. That is probally something that would prevent them from doing it. Also, I think they sell that book at the Museum for Glacier Girl. There is a lot of cool stuff you can learn just buy going in and reading the stuff they have put up, and asking the guys whatever questions you have. I am going to go over again this year when they fly her, soon as I find out when that will be.

Glacier Girl
I had the pleasure of seeing her fly at the Lakeland (FL) Sun 'n Fun FlyIn two years ago...met the crew and in particular the fellow who led the expedition (I believe) named Bob. I cannot tell you in words, without choking up and tears (only true airplane lovers understand this one) what a BEAUTIFUL SITE AND A RESTORATION OF BEAUTY she was, and to hear her engines and see her fly was truly historical. Wish I had had a digital camera then so as to post pictures of this event.

I was in Middlesboro with my parents and grandparents, eating out for Thanksgiving. As we went out outside after eating, a P-38 flew over towards the airport. It was Glacier Girl. I had a special feeling just looking at it in the museum, being right next to it, looking up under the wings. Just sent chills down my spine, but that feeling is 10 fold seeing it fly. I wish I had my camera then too. Glacier Girl was purchased by Provenence Fighter Sales and moved to California at the end of last year.

Wasn't it only moved to California just to get the updates for the flight? The museum's website has no news about it being sold or permantely moved. However they didn't post that it was going to be flying in November either, nor do they have anything up about the flight to England. I hope it will remain in Middlesboro though, and its just being updated for the flight to England this Summer. The article you posted stated that its home base is still in Middlesboro.

There’s a quite lengthy discussion going on, at this time, about future plans for Glacier Girl. The discussion started because of a rumor that Glacier Girl would be going to Duxford for the Flying Legends airshow in July. The discussion started out as a “would she or wouldn’t she” and has evolved into a “should she or shouldn’t she”.

I've only been there that one time. I enjoyed it alot. It was the first big airshow that I've ever been to. There was plenty to check out.
I toured the Memphis Belle. There were about 6 or 7 Zeros there doing a Pearl Harbor reenactment. A 2nd P-38, Corsair, Mustang, B-25, and a lot of modern stuff. I also took a Huey ride.
I haven't been back since then. I'm going to look it up soon to see who all is scheduled to be there this year.
It's nice to see another P-38 fan here.

This year the Thunderbirds are scheduled, but its the same weekend as Oshkosh I think, and I am afraid it would hurt the chances of having a lot of vintage birds there. I know theres going to be a lot of USAF stuff there too as its part of the 60th anni shows.kevrut wrote:To bdr_ws6;
