I have no idea what Jason and the team at Admiral toys has planed to release in 1:18 scale but based on AT track record I know we will not be disappointed. No matter what AT makes for us. .
One question Jason are any of the 1:18 aircraft that will be shown at the toy fair be over the 100-125 USD dollar mark?

When I was thinking of the F-14 reasoning, I also stumbled on another possibility in my thought process.
Points for all you Wildcat fans!
Father: The F4F was the first of the Grumman Cat series, and could be argued to be the first truly carrier capable monoplane fighter.
Oil: Texas oil men also carry the nicknames of Wildcatters.
Jump and Pull: would also be the method of bail out for an F4F as well as describe its take off!
Hook: It was a carrier based plane, for crying out loud!
Just so you know, I am not really a big fan of the Wildcat. It's much too slow for me, and was in my opinion very short on looks (I find the landing gear to be dreadful). Sure, I know it was almost bullet proof and a real work horse (loved the tale I saw on Dog Fights about the pilot who came up behind a flight of Japanese dive bombers and picked off something like six of them because they would not take evasive action!).

It could be a wildcat, I remembered Jason saying that one of the aircraft coming out was going to have a snazzy metal landing gear, and the only way for a 1:18 wild cat to have fully functional landing gear would be to make it out of metal.
but I think the wildcat is about the same size as SBD.

I agree then If they make a B-25 then they have to make a P-61,Teamski wrote:You guys are starting to freak me out with this B-25 talk..... I'd go nuts if Admiral pulled off a stunt like that...

The C-47/DC-3 has some complex landing gear too, but at a 63.6in wingspan in 1/18, it's not happening

G'day All
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider has already been mentions but I thought I'd wrap the available clues around the wonderful beast also.
Father = Someone mentioned earlier that Jason’s Dad flew the Skyraider and this to me sounds to be the most positive tie-in to the clue, trying to Google an answer on the other hand only resulted in one very tenuous result which is the paper clipping below.

Oil = Many combat shots of the Skyraider show the fuselage sides streaked (like the one below) or better still coated in a very thick oil stains , so much so that the later Skyraiders in Air force service had a large black panel painted on the fuselage sides to hide this Staining.

Jump and Pull were your only options = no idea other than the this may also apply to the bailout procedure.
Hook = Most Skyraiders retained the arrestor “Hook” systems regardless of which service they where in.

Finally just by looking at these things my guess is that the Skyraider would surely have to be much bigger than a Dauntless if not only in height then overall also.
I be truely chuffed by one of these and the paint opportunities are endless.

Spudkopf, very good observations there...I like that you could pull in something Jason might have used as an obscure clue!!
Something's not sitting right with a Skyraider for me. Mind you, I would looooooove to have one, as it is definately one of the coolest of the last piston powered planes. I just don't like the idea of Admiral making so many radial singles all at once. To an outside observer, three radial powered planes in a row would look an awful lot alike and would leave a question as to "What's the Point." A Dauntless, Kate, and Skyraider are too similar to do at the same time. I liked Admiral's strategy of doing a WWII and Korean vintage plane back to back. And I know that Admiral wouldn't stick just to jets, so a piston is likely, but they need to keep some variety.

Hints and more hints...
I can't venture a new guess with the hints that have been made so far. Many good guesses and reasonings thus far.
The two aircraft possibilities that seem most popular are the C-47 and the Skyraider. Both are Douglas aircraft, like the Dauntless. The C-47 could be construed as a father to the Dauntless (I know its a stretch). Boy, I'd love to see the Skyraider in all blue Korean livery or the light grey Vietnam paint.
I may have missed any specific reference to scale, but the C-47/DC-3 in 1:32 would be sweet and do-able. (about 21" long by 31.5" wingspan) Also consider the many color schemes: D-Day invasion paratrooper ship, Navy and Air Force versions, Vietnam gunship, plus some pretty cool pre-war civilian airliner colors (American, United, Eastern, etc)
The more I think about it, a C-47/DC-3 in 1:32 would be absolutely awesome, and should have an almost endless repaint possibilities in a much wider market than military enthusiasts. Think about all the general aviation folks out there that would love the many civilian liveries!

Yes, I know he did, but there is still a real possibility of 1:18 because the master model could be used for both...and he said they haven't ruled it out for 1:18.VMF115 wrote:Jason said the Kate was 1:32
But that does remind me that there is also a Corsair in the mix as well, and that is for sure too many radials...no matter what scale, to me--for me anyway.
"and that is for sure too many radials"
Blasphemy!!!
There is never too many planes of any kind!
I have to watch my blood pressure

not an A-1
Unless he meant it was in tooling not production then I think that answers that..Jason of Admiral Toys wrote:...when we finish the A-1 let me know. I myself would like to see it!I am trying to find where this rumor got started. I love that aircraft, but I know Admiral Toys does not have one in production at this time. Sorry, but you need to guess again.

Well Jason himself said that some of us have guessed it, I emphsize "us" so we can throw out single examples of guesses like the X-1. Each of the primary players don't seem to quite fit the clues unless they do in some way in Jason's mind.Jason of Admiral Toys wrote: Post Script:
I love the guessing so far, some of you are correct!
Jason of Admiral Toys wrote:
I'll paraphrase what Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet he wrote "I think that the Lady protest too much" It seems to me that he was trying to deflect attention from the Skyraider. Anyway his denial seemed pretty strong just for a guessing game. Just a thought I still think its a Skyraider or a B-25 possibly. Though its probably with our luck and Jason's clues its the "Flying Flapjack"!!!...when we finish the A-1 let me know. I myself would like to see it! Laughing I am trying to find where this rumor got started. I love that aircraft, but I know Admiral Toys does not have one in production at this time. Sorry, but you need to guess again. Smile
