No telling on Wal Mart and the Flight 19 Avenger. It could be tomorrow, it could be never. I suspect they will show up there eventually, however. Hopefully it will be more of an even distribution with smaller caseloads instead of the recent trend with only some stores getting 20 and then drastically marking the rest down because they could only sell 6 of them...

Somewhere, buried deep in all of this (or maybe the 21st 1/18 manufacturer's thread), I seem to recall a statement that the tooling had already changed over and the screw caps would not be available, after all. I would think that by now, if they were going to be made available, it would have been posted here and/or on Area 21 by now. At this stage, the factory has probably moved way beyond it being an option. Which rather blows, since I too have one of the original "oops" models.
I guess I look at it this way: I can fill the holes and make a pitot tube to glue on, or I can hold onto it as-is and hope that someday mine will be one of the few rare and valuable unmodified originals from a relatively low production run.

I agree with you on the screw caps - 21c has moved on. Afterall, Wal Marts across the country (just not any of the ones near you or me) were getting 20 or more "fixed" Avengers. Thus, in theory, we could all return our "defective" Avengers for the new ones. That was actually the response I got from a 21c rep that I e-mailed about the screw cap issue
However, thanks to some intel, I was able to get a hold of a "fixed" Atlantic Avenger from my brother, who found one in southern Ca. and return the other. The screw caps make all the difference
BTW, I gave in and ordered a "Flight 19" Avenger. Afterall, it was the Avenger scheme I initially ordered from BCA. According to the UPS tracking system, I should get it today

Another thing to think about...
Why is 21st putting out a new scheme so quick?
Makes no marketing sense - other than the small select few like us that want multiples? Sure there were some hold outs who did not want the atlantic version and waited for the next one.
The planes are big - and for many reasons most people will only own one Avenger. Now I see some bringing their atlantic version back and trading for the next scheme.
Would have made more sense for 21st to maybe wait a year for each version but it seems they will be out right after another.
It would have made more sense to have all the versions at the same time - but I know each scheme is costly.
WM, 21st century - all sides seem to make choices that harm the market in the long run.
This makes me believe WM will not get them and the next few schemes will be short runs.
Ok I ranted

I actually do have one of each version (pre and post-fix) of the Avenger, thanks to clearance pricing--we did get them in a couple WMs around here, although rather late in the game. Factor in that I got my pre-fix version back in September, and fairly cheap ($39.84, thanks to a pricing screw-up), I have been less bothered by the screw cap issue than those who got them later and for $70. My big debate is whether or not I should fill the holes and use it as a base for a custom PTO paint scheme, or cross my fingers that it may someday be like the Ferrari Daytona berlinetta--everyone wanted to have the much rarer Spyder so they converted coupes to convertibles. Now, it's the original coupe that is the rarer car.
As far as releasing the new paint scheme so soon after the last: 21st has done it many times before with the Mustangs and the Bf-109G6s, with 3 or more variants being released simultaneously. And since the Flight 19 version was announced ages ago, it's not like most collectors haven't known about it if they wanted one--if they were patient enough to wait (tman
)
I plan on picking up one (NOT all 5, as much as I would like to), but I consider it a kind of special edition stand-alone piece, kind of like my Sky Captain P-40.

Okay, the tracking number for #28 has been generated, and I figure it'll arrive some time next week. Now I'll have the only Avenger I wanted in the first place. (the Atlantic version goes to my fiancee's dad)
Yeah!

Well I got my Flight 19 Avenger today
The all blue scheme looks great, and there is a ton more stenciling all over the aircraft. My only gripe is that the pilot's canopy on the right side of my plane is cracked! Also, the alien figure seems to be missing... I am contacting BCA tomorrow to see if at least the canopy issue can be rectified. They have not let me down with their customer service in the past. Other than the canopy and missing alien, it is a neat plane!

It appears that no alien figure was included with the flight leader #28 for some reason but the rest of the flight has a version of him in there. ??
21st has confirmed this as so.

The same can be said with this one on eBay:BadCatMatt wrote:It appears that no alien figure was included with the flight leader #28 for some reason but the rest of the flight has a version of him in there. ??

What's funny is I was watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind yesterday and the aliens did return the pilots from Flight 19.

It was the "cameos" of the Flight 19 planes and crew that brought the memory of the lost flight and all the theories for its disappearance back into the public consciousness. A great beginning for a film about extraterrestrial contact - and one of the reasons I wanted one of the Flight 19 AvengersMK wrote:What's funny is I was watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind yesterday and the aliens did return the pilots from Flight 19.

I always wondered what it would be like as one of those pilots in the film - coming back to a world then 30 years removed while seemingly only yesterday you were taken by the aliens...

Funny, I was just joking about this tonight with my buds when I saw the Avengers at Walmart.tmanthegreat wrote:It was the "cameos" of the Flight 19 planes and crew that brought the memory of the lost flight and all the theories for its disappearance back into the public consciousness. I think I would have strangled one of those damn aliens!, kidnapping them and dropping them off in a time when their families are way older or dead. Wives far older and remarried, parents possibly dead, children grown.
Hey, like the goverment portrayed in the movie was going to let them just waltz back and tell everyone too.
I mean unless the aliens saved them from certain death, they should have been polite enough to ask. LOL

First post, and I'm just getting started in 1:18th warbirds. My wife bought me the "Seemann"scheme 109-G for Christmas, and I just picked up an Atlantic scheme Avenger yesterday at Wal Mart in Ardmore, OK. They had 7 of them on clearance for $20. Definitely gonna have to build some bigger shelves in my office!

Maybe this has been covered, don't recall, if so then sorry. Anyway, the alien pic that was on Area 21 last year is the same alien that comes with the new Avengers, also, if you recall they posted 2 pics of the alien for us to try and figure something out. Well the top pic is an alien that looks like crawling out of an Avenger cockpit, you can make out the canopy frame. Bottom pic I still don't know but the canopy seems to be in view as well.
