770th in action

Post by Morian Miner » Mon Jan 22, 2007 9:31 am

I had wanted to build a diorama of the 770th working the White Pass and Yukon in '42 and '43. I didn't expect Mother Nature to do one before me. So, I threw together a couple quick shots this morning.

Snows already melted, for the most part. :( Wonder if it will be another 6 years before we get another storm like yesterday.

So far, all my backyard trackage is G-scale (3 foot gauge in 1:20.3). Ignoring the difference between 1:18 and 1:20.3, its the right gauge for White Pass and Yukon (which the Army controlled in WWII)

The first picture has an AMS flatcar. This flat is pretty decent match for a C&S flatcar the WP&Y bought during the war. The tunnel is some wood thrown together one weekend that has held together pretty well.

The second picture is a LGB Stainz locomotive that is currently undergoing its second major kitbash (took a nosedive off a table and destroyed its pilot) with a custom tender.

Once I get this section of the yard done this spring (a trapezoidal area about 30'x60'), I am planning a standard gauge line. Still debating whether to make the track gauge to 1:18 scale (like the Buddy L trains) or 1:20.3 ("F"-scale)

That is one awesome looking diorama. The snow is awsome and makes it all more life like.
