Did 21c retool the front end of the slick version of the huey or is there a hole where the grenade launcher used to be?
It looks to me in pictures that the holes on the side for the weapons pods are still in the fuselage but i can't see the nose to see if the hole for the grenade launcher is still present.
thanks for any info.
Huey 'slick' question
Huey 'slick' question
i never met an airplane i didn't like...
Interesting question, something I never thought about. I took a look at the slick and shark I've hanging and see no evidence of plugs, holes, or anything else for that matter that shows how the hog turret was attached. I think you'll be ok.

You can call it retooled, but they removed the screw housing on the front that the grenade laucher fit around along with another bracket that held it to the nose of the Huey. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.

Take a look at my Webshots under XD stuff. There is the picture of the S1 Huey with the grenade launcher removed. Hope that help.

So Momaw - how did you go about removing the grenade launcher? Coincidentially I've been thinking of doing the same lately but didn't know the best way to approach it w/o breaking things apart. It looks like your Huey is getting quite the overhaul!momaw nadon wrote:You can call it retooled, but they removed the screw housing on the front that the grenade laucher fit around along with another bracket that held it to the nose of the Huey. Also if anyone knows how to remove the bench/back wall in the troop compartment, I've been wanting to give my Huey some more space --- I still really wish they'd done the slightly bigger Huey (D model?) to accomodate more troops! Well, and of course some door guns! How can you do a Vietnam Huey and not do door guns?!

To answer you question, you first remove the screw plug. Once that is done you can unscrew that screw and the grenade launcher halves should come apart. I don't remember if they are glued together or not, but you might have to add some glue to the nose to keep it together once you remove the brackets.parrish333 wrote:So Momaw - how did you go about removing the grenade launcher? About the wall you would have to pull the whole thing part if you don't want to break the wall out. Side note on that, if you do remove the back wall there is nothing behide it to hold things from falling in the tail section and you still have the black box thing that the rotor is attached to to deal with. I would think it would still be in your way for what you want. I hope that helps you.
Totally agree with you on the D. Plus door guns would have been nice.

Perfect - thanks for the info! Removing the launcher seems easier than I feared. And it sounds like it wouldn't be worth the trouble to remove the back wall if the rotor attachment hangs down into that area. It obviously wasn't a solution grounded in reality anyhow, more of a functional solution just to open up more space.momaw nadon wrote:To answer you question, you first remove the screw plug.
