Decal question
Decal question
Hello, I am planning to re-paint a 1/18 scale BBI P-51 and was wondering if there was a company that could scale-up some 1/48 or 1/32 scale decals? Or if by some strange coincidence there is actually a company that sells decals in that scale. The last time I checked 1/24 scale was the largest plastic kit based on a P-51 but I could be wrong. Or if someone has other techniques that work let me know. I just figured if I scaled up some 1/32 scale decals I would also have all the "warning", "no step", etc. decals as well. Thanks for your time.
I've done this before. The way I do it is I buy either 1/48 or 1/32 if possible decals, scan them into my computer, enlarge them (266% for 1/48) to 1/18, print them out on blank decal paper, spray with decal bonder, then trim out as close to the image as possible and apply like a regular decal. That's the short version. Hope this helps.
Scan and print {No dis-respect Pokeyjtc}...... Aircobra if yer gonna go thru all the time of preping and painting yer bird and then apply sub-par blown up blurry images with white edges from the white decal paper you'll have to use called decals{which is our experience in the scan and print mode} because we use to have make 'em that way- back in the day. Decals by Lair - The early Testors Experiment- sounds like a book and the sad cut-out swastikas we did along with all else in those days , we can give you a choice.... We have 1/18th P-51 decals- several schemes crisp and clean and/or can do any custom bird you like. Respecfully....... TJJ....... samples: http://community.webshots.com/user/VEXDEC

Jackson, let me know if you are able to re-create any of the three schemes I have listed below. And are you able to do all the warning and no-step type decals as well?

You'll have to specifically state what images you need made into decals from these 3 schemes, some are simple others are more involved so let us know what decals you specifically want made from all 3 birds shown. We can make any image into a decal as long as we got crisp/clean images to start with and price will be reflected on how much TIME will be involved in making them into decals. Most of the basic markings we have made up for P-51s. So if you got better images than the ones the link went to, send them in an email, if not we will have to use our time to find good images...... vexillarius@adelphia.net ....... TJJ

Jackson,
I've seen your webshots of all of your decals, they are quite nice. I know, scan and print isn't the best way to do it, but it is the best way I can do it myself. One of these days, I'll get around to getting some decals from you guys, until then, I'll be scanning and printing. Keep up the good work.
Just curious, without giving away any proprietary secrets, how do you guys make your decals?

Believe me I know scan and print probably better than most and it is the way to get yer own decals, was not trying to be-little anybodys effort at doing it yourself. We just took it to the next level of creating images and getting good at cleaning up images- very time consuming. Secrets no secrets we still scan and print- it is just there is alot in between the two actions for us. Also it's you and folks like you that the making of your own decals satisfies and finishes off yer projects... so you keep up the good work and DECALS ?? WE DON'T NEED TO BUY ANY STINKING DECALS !!!! Alps CorelDraw....... Respectfully...... TJJpokeyjtc wrote:Jackson,

Jackson, I have located and now in the process of ordering a sheet of 1/32nd scale cutting edge decals for the "Frenesi" scheme, the first one on my list above. If I send you the 1/32nd scale sheet would you be able to scale them up to 1/18 including all the various smaller decals like the "no step", and "warning" signs? No hurry here, just let me know when you get a chance, thanks.
