Was there a convertible version?
I have a 1951 convertible version in 1:18 scale. Did the Germans use a convertible version in WWII?
Info here:

and here

And lastly:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Fe ... d=101211#4
(the applicable section reading:
Even though the factory's production would be dedicated primarily to Type 62 and Type 82 Kübelwagens, and the amphibious Type 128 and Type 166 Schwimmwagens during the war, there were still a few Beetles being turned out for use, almost exclusively, by Nazi party officials. In fact, between July 11, 1941 (the date when production officially began) and August 7, 1944 when production ceased under pressure of Allied bombing, 630 Beetle sedans and 13 cabriolet convertibles were built. During roughly that same period, somewhere around 50,000 Kübelwagens and 14,000 Schwimmwagens were built.)

The wheels and bumpers are all wrong on this Bettle, but the paint looks good. One other problem is the ride highth.
If anyone wants one of these, look for the Maisto 51 Beetle. I'm working on one myself. I'll using the wheels from the Kubelwagen with some other extras. Also raised it up to make it look like the 4 wheel drive version and it would need to be done for the 2 wheel one too just not as high as what I did.

War Bug ?
Would like to see 21st.Century make a "war bug" , a camo'd V700 staff car like the tiny New Millennium Toys version , and a "fancy shiny-black & chrome variant in 1:18 to go with my #'rd set (303) of "SchutzStaffel".
lol

Ask and you shall receive. I can't find the picture that has Hitler riding in one, but these should work. The Hitler one has a door set up like the Kubelwagen with solid doors not the canvas as in these pictures. Most were Police service cars for the homeland during the war. Also found a prototype picture of the Kubelwagen. I have always like what things looked like before production. Even the Willys-Overland prototype jeep look the different than what they produced. Anyway I hope you enjoy.
pre-war VW 4-door Beetles
I have taken some time off from the T-34. I was getting a little burned out from it. Plus all the stress from the holidays was getting to me. I hope to jump back into it with a fresh new out look after Christmas. I would post pictures, but I don't want to jinks myself if the funds don't come through after it's finished. And believe me I really really want to show off the work I have done so far, but it seems like with my luck if I do it will be doomed. Once it is done I'll get picture up though. If anything by then I can at least make a few resin ones. Happy Holidays.

Thanks Momaw!
Ive never seen an 4 door "Bug", do you know if they sold them after the war?
It looks pretty good, especially the hard roof, hard door one.
Sorry if I imposed a bit about the T-34
Good Luck with it as always!
Tell me if you need a reference of something, I might have some things that you can use.
Also, take your time with the T-34, your not on a deadline or anything (I think
), enjoy it, and dont think of it as a job

Moth,
The hard top 4 door is a post-war Beetle. I'm going from memory here, but I think it is a 1958. I know for sure it was a Taxi at one time.
Not a problem about the T-34. I'm glad you asked. Two things I don't want to do is drag it on forever and not finished it, but one had to give when I was putting about 8 plus hours into it a day on top of work. I just hope my break doesn't put it out too much longer that I stated before.
chunks,
They are hard to find. I seen that picture too on the web, when I couldn't find the book I have that has a better picture of him standing in the back. Plus if you look at that picture it's a 2-door one. I think I have a picture of that one from Wolfsburg when I was there. I dig VWs. Anyway the other picture of Hitler standing you can clearly see the 4-doors with handles on the ends like that Kubelwagen. Would be cool if pictures and numbers were eazier to find on these pre-war cars.
The other one that is almost as hard to find anything on is the Type 825 pickup used by the Germans. I normally only find post-war models, but there were differences after the war that were never on pre-war pickups. I want to make an 1/18th version of the pickup as counter for the Dodge weapons carrier. One day I'll find something I can use.

Yes, it's base is the Beetle. So think about a Bug with the back cut off just behide the drivers seat and above the engine then add the bed. They are neat looking IMO. There is a guy down the street from me that has one, but I haven't had the time to talk with him. I think it's a custom and not an original, but still looks cool.
I'll post a picture or two in the link above.
