New product development on AREA-21

i'm liking this trend towards structural mods on new items, rather than just simple repaints. 262 looks sharp. I bet there's a sturmvogel on the horizon.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it looks like they are using a common fuselage for both versions (makes sense) just like the old 1/72 Jo Han model did and not to like the German owned 1:1 flying replica does.

If you look closely you can see the join line of the fillet used to convert them between 1 and tow seaters.

I have always liked the JG7 red and blue Defence of the Reich bands and the running dog emblem, I am also quite fond of the late war 81, 82, 76 paint scheme.

I only hope this is not the same scheme that AT have chosen for their S2 262 scheme as to me it seems quite a logical choice being one of more well known restorations. Maybe their S2 will be white 3 from the same unit, that aircraft landed and was interned in Switzerland in 45 and then returned to Germany and is now on display in the Munich.

Very nice!!! I'm glad 21st went ahead with their two versions of the 262 even after Admiral got theirs (single seater) out first. I think the Me 262 is the coolest looking bird the Luftwaffe ever put into the sky.

21c has not indicated to me a firm release date. You guys know the drill.

Here is what I would conclude. Look at the recent history of releases (minus the Avenger). 21c is not showing stuff unless it is right around the corner. The sabres, migs, figures, halftracks, and other items have been VERY timely. My guess is that we will see this plane in the next couple months or sooner. I would also expect to see s1 paints of both the single seat and the night fighter released together.

I know for a fact that if these photos were taken weeks ago and that if there are paint masters for each (which I know there is) that the final production is VERY close now.

As for the 262, I'm sort of with Teamski. Don't get me wrong, its a great plane and will sport an excellent paintscheme and get into Wal Marts across the nation, but it doesn't seem to be offering that much more over the AT version save the movable alierons. This is unlike the 21c F-86 which offered superior detail over the competition. The nightfighter ME-262 was much more origional

It looks nice too much like AT version, too much like at version as a mater of fact.
I am starting to feel like Bill Murray in ground hogs day.

I think it’s a nice looking aircraft but we really neeeeeeeeeed some variety.

I hope 21st doesn't adopt the same "destroy the competition at any cost" attitude that DML has. This sure is starting to mirror what is going on in the 1/6th world though.

no worries gang......it's just coincidence that AT and 21c both developed the 262 at the same time. It's just coincidence that they both did the F-86 around the same time as well. They were both pretty obvious choices. Neither product is so superior as to 'destroy the competition' and i doubt that's the intent....in both cases they're just trying to capatalize on a lot of hard work and development costs.

21st and AT are cultivating slightly different niches it seems, and i'm sure both will sell very well.

I'm not a huge fan of this duplication either but it's bound to happen from time to time with the relatively small 'gene pool' of well known, suitably sized planes to choose from.

At least it will give a wider variety of paint schemes from which to select....i like yellow 7 very much....and we also have day, nightfighter and probably a sturmvogel fighter-bomber versions to pick from as well.

This duplication is also increasing quality, detail and features offered as well. So it's not the end of the world that there's duplication.

There's duplication in every scale out there, so not surprising it's happening in 1/18.

Does anyone know which version of the shell ejection chutes is correct? The Admiral and 21st upper chutes look very different. I poked around a little on the net, but I couldn't find any good shots of the shell ejection chutes. Could they both be correct and be different versions of the cannon layout?

On the surface, the AT version is closest to the one very clear picture I have of the chutes. However, the upper guns on the AT version aren’t located correctly and do not line up with the ports in the nose. The 21st version appears to have the guns in the correct location but their chute doesn’t look like the picture I have. I believe this is because the upper guns on the 21st version aren't staggerd back as much as they should be.

I found this photo.

The second photo shows the ejection chute routing of an actual Me-262 Night Fighter. Red #8.
