no worries about the EAM B-17, i was just mentioning that it has been discussed before. Keep bringing us any new discoveries you may find.

Here is another plane i forgot to mention:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-CH-SU-27-FLANKER- ... dZViewItem

Wingspan is about perfect...it's about 3 inches short. Very close to 1/18. I bought one recently and plan to sell off all the r/c gear it comes with (you can't buy just the plane). I'm going to scratch up some missiles, detail the cockpit, repaint etc. Should look pretty sharp when done. The nice thing about these styro planes is they are very light for hanging.

Do you know how to make wings and tail surfaces from scratch, just using plans? (referring to the EAM B-17).

BTW, Alfa is coming out with a Beaufighter soon that is almost exactly 1/18 scale.

Here is one more, I'm not sure what scale this would come out to be but it is interesting, or at least to me it is. I have always liked the Mosquito and plan to buy this kit when it passes the R&D stage. It's made by Flying Styro, the same company that makes the B-25 I have so I'm sure it too would make an excellent static model.

that's nice too. About 1/15 scale.

Did i mention the Greatplanes DC-3? It's fuselage is about 1/20.5 scale and the wings are about 1/19 scale (like alot of r/c planes the wings are disprortionately big with respect to the fuselage), so it 'averages' to about 1/20 scale.

Thin molded fuselage so one could scratch build an entire interior if you wanted. Mostly pre-assembled. Just put the wings on and paint it up.

Not perfect but the closest we may ever get to a 1/18 Skytrain or Spooky.

Whoa! Hobby Lobby is having a sale on the Super Detailed B-25 kit. $56 off the regular price, so it's now cheaper than the regular kit. I think this is a one day sale but not sure. I jumped on it anyway.

Hope i like it. :)

Aferguson, I'm interested in knowing what you think of your B-25. Since this is a R/C model, if one doesn't buy the motors, how are the props mounted for static display?

i'll let you know when i get it but i think it has a false engine molded on the front of each cowl....so it would go together like a model.

I would think anything with revolving turrets would be cost prohibitive to make.

I think it's time someone started bringing out the 1/18 WWI fighter planes anyway :D

WWI fighters have been bantered about quite often. I would love to see a Spad and a DR VII.

tmanthegreat wrote:I think a Mosquito (or similar sized plane) would be it... The dimensions are not that much greater than the Avenger, and it would cost about the same and save for the folding wings and turret, have similar engineering complications. As for modern planes, I could see something like the F-4.

I would love to say a B-25 would be the largest (alot of members have been wishing for one for years) but that is getting quite large, increasingly complicated, and therefore expensive. The interior on an Avenger is far less extensive than what would be needed to sasisfy the 21c designers - let alone us collectors - for a B-25. The same could be said for some of the larger modern planes. I'd love to see an F-14 in 1:18, and it would sell quite well, I think, but it would be massive, complicated to produce, and expensive!

Ju 88A/C/G is roughly the same size as a Mosquito
Do 17z(possible 217s) are roughly a tad smaller than a Ju 88

prob see the 1/32s first.

do 17's and 217's are quite large actually. They'd be noticably larger than a Ju 88. Not quite as spanny (some variants had larger wingspans however) but longer and bulkier, especially the 217, as compared to the relatively 'petite' ju 88.

I don't know how likely we are to see any of the main 3 german twin engine bombers in 1/18, frankly. The Ju88 is probably the most likely, being the smallest and most versatile.

I dont think we will see anything bigger in the 1/18th scale. The Avenger pushed it to the limit and it was expensive. I would love to see a B-17F or G but sadly I dont think it will ever happen. Can you imagin how massive a B-17 would be? Not to mention the cost? I'm running out of room as it is now that I've added an Avenger to my collection.
