Why do I feel like an expectant father in one of the old movies, pacing in the waiting room, waiting for the doctor to come out? Come on, TKO!!! You're killing us here!!!

I have learned to not even try to guess that new products are around the corner in 1:18th scale. I am always way off. :(

I think that everybody is in for a let down. A 1/18 A-10 will be a big disappointment because nobody wants one!
Just kidding, bring it on! This would make both the armor and aircraft collectors happy :!:

i reckon its a new mig (21 or 29 me thinks/hopes), or perhaps the f5 actually is a 21st product...hence the sudden anouncement with no build up ( as it was sort of outed on ebay, just not saying which manufacturer...)

Ok if I had to guess I would think it is something to do with the ME262 project. Admiral hit a home run with their ME262, and this would be a good time for 21st Century to show theirs and the details that makes thiers unique.

Announcing the ME-262 that would be somewhat underwhelming, since we know that is already coming out. I'm thinking it will be something totally new like a new line of Aircraft whether Jets or Twin Engine aircraft. Although personally I don't feel it will be that major, I'm a bit of a pessimist now. The anouncement will probably be posted around 17:00 PST when they close shop. Just a guess.

But something we already know is what TKO said. He also said wings. Don't you think details on the 262 would make good sense?

Perhaps but it would only appear (in my eyes anyway) to be an attempt to take some of Admiral's thunder away because they were first with it. I think 21st needs something new that says. Yes thier (Admiral's ME-262) is great but look what we have in the works! And then they show thier new 1/18 B-52 with crew and operating nuclear bomb. That would be major, anything less would just be grandstanding like when they announced thier F-86. It was great they brought thiers out and its a fantastic airplane, but they had the benifit of studying Admirals. Releasing the Mig I thought was a more fantastic move. Here was an original aircraft with great features, that was exciting. That was a major announcement. I think I've gotten jaded over the years. I just must be getting old lately I take everything the manufacturers say with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I guess they will pull out the 262---put AT's is so pretty it seems hard to top it. Thus, it comes off as kind of bland. The hope is for something really innovative with it or an odd model like a nachtjaeger.

262

Post by digger » Wed Dec 06, 2006 12:19 pm

Well, I hope 21C doesn't intend to "study" the AT 262 in order to make theirs - that would mean they haven't even tooled it and it is months and months away. :?
I think just the fact that the 21C 262 is going be virtually half the price of the AT version and that it will be available in stores is what will allow it to shine. Any features or goodies beyond that are just gravy. :D

I thought TKO said that the Me 262 was in its final production phase?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?

Why does 21st Century Toys and Admiral make the same plane? twice?

First the F-86 then the 262...

Playing the Devil's Advocate here. It is still plenty of time to do some tweaking on thier aircraft with things such as paint and detailing like weathering.

Manufacturing the same plane doesn't make sense to me. They make the same plane and sell less because other people already bought the competitors. Make a different plane and maybe the'll sell twice as many. I don't get their logic. Here's how it's going to be, A.T. is going to make the F-4 Phantom, BBI F-14 Tomcat and 21st the A-10. You companies got it? Now start researching. Go ahead! Get moving!

Something else to be considered now that I look at it. Rumours are flying that Admiral is releasing an F-5 in 2007. Maybe 21st feels its safe to announce one of thier big secrets for 2007.

i've been thinking and it could be that they've decided to do a Sturmvogel version of the 262. That would have two bombs under the chin. Quite interesting and a bit different.

Or they could have gotten innovative and have armament options like underwing rockets, bombs, 50mm nose cannon etc so that you can mix and match to make various armament combos. They wouldn't all necessarily match the particular paint scheme chosen but would be fun, nonetheless.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...
