Stuka--sounds like a plan--I will e-mail him this afternoon, so hopefully we have a response by Monday. ANYTHING to give us a clear idea of scale and confirm he isn't yanking our chain. Of course, I still think his pricing is allowing for a very healthy mark-up for both him AND his supplier. I have no objection to them making a profit, but... like I always told my salesmen back in my retail days when they would try to push someone too hard on a high commission product: 5% of something beats 100% of nothing any day of the week. I would love to find the actual manufacturer of these models--I have business contacts in Korea and China that might be able to help us out, if I could tell them where to start--I suspect that right now, his price is also including shipping costs from China to him, vs drop shipping directly from China.

I suspect they have already done their time--last I knew, service over there is mandatory. I find it kind of odd, actually, that these things have never popped up over here before.
Makes you wonder if the 1/18 military model industry is alive and well in Russia, too... We know that Western Europe seem to rely on 21st a lot for 1/18, but how about Eastern Europe? Anybody ever hear of 1/18 models coming out of Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, etc.?

Well, I got an answer back sooner than expected. The chassis is 10.25 inches long, and with the main gun, about 16 inches. Here is a pic--and I will happily put the full size one up here if someone can tell me how to get it to link to the full-size pic instead of the thumbnail!!!

And here is his response:
"Got your reply, thank you !
Here is a pic of the T59 Tank with a ruler shown the length of the tank.
At this moment, we have no stock of the "Sudden Attack Chariot", can't take any photo.

I just wondering why you & Ryan worrying about the dimension of them model very much!? Please don't worry, these model are made under the PLA authority, they are all the gift of the PLA military department, no reason worrying about their quality, realistic, and detail!!

Hope you can understand these circumstances".

So if anyone has more info on actual dimensions and can confirm if this is accurate 1/18 scale (smaller than a Bulldog sounds kind of small to me, but then again, Russian armor isn't an area I am very familiar with).

It’s nice to see that capitalism is alive and well over there, I bet it only cost the PLA a few USD to make.

I was also told the same thing about commission, but in a different way it’s better to get half a loaf then no loaf at all

well...here are the dimensions of a t59 tank:

6.04m legth
2.59m height
3.27m width

which should be, in 1:18 scale:

33.55cm length
14.388cm height
18.16cm width

this i based on the dimensions given at sinodefence.com...

You'd be correct Aferg. Looks like the first seller from the Chinese Ebay that got us all looking at it was right in the muddled response he sent me. Here it is:

Oh well, at least we gave it the good try and know we know the rest of the story.
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!

Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

You think he might not get the point of why we care?

" just wondering why you worrying about the dimension of them model very much!? Please don't worry, these model are made under the PLA authority, they are all the gift of the PLA military department, no reason worrying about their quality, realistic, and detail!!"

It sure would look funny to repaint the thing for desert camo, then have a couple custom made Iraqi troops riding the thing like a circus clown car...

Thanks everyone for your patience in getting to the bottom of this, and thanks Birddog for working with me on to get some real answers here!

I am just glad we figured it out now rather than after 5 or 6 of us had laid out $150+ each for a tank in the wrong scale.

So now which manufacturer do we beg for modern targets, er, armor, to go with our M1A1s, Bradleys, and AH-64s?

cheers for all the work either way birddog....it is really appreciated alot!

funny thing is...it is actually a type 59 II, because it has the 105mm not 100mm gun, as you can tell from the top of the barrel. he could, if it had been a type 59, have said it was 1:24 but can be used as a roughly 1:18 type 62 light tank, as it is a scaled down type 59 for mountainous areas....interesting. as you can see ive been doing some research....

heres the type 59:

heres the type 62:
