Well Actually I was the Bn chemical decon specialist. So I was in the dessert in a big green truck in the Bn combat trains right behind the tanks.
But close enough to watch my budys in the line platoons knock the T59s out with their 120mm main gun on the M1A1s. Also close enough to get shot at by RPGs and 60mm motors. I tell you it was better then any 4th of July fire works Ive ever seen. One of these days I'll have to get a scanner so I can post some pics.

interesting luftpanzer. have you read mcmaster's account in "armoured warfare"? very detailed account of 72 easting...
the iraqi armour was mainly type 59s, the main bulk of it was. at 72 easting it was vs elements of the tawakalna ala allah rep guard division though, so more t 72s really. interesting that in the account they left out that the iraqis failed to use more than half charges and used steel penetrators.
i recognise the chinese special forces 'jeep' type vehicle, ive seen it from another seller. ill look to see if it said who manufactured it. they also sell the beijing 212 'jeep' alot, i thinbk its the same manufacturer.

Dude! I was there with the 2nd BDE combat team, 3rd Armored DIV! It was one helluva night fight event! Glad to see it is such a small world and we're both here!luftpanzer wrote:You could take that type 59 and do a repaint for the Iraqi army during Desert Storm. We knocked out a few of them during the battle of 71st easting. You can do the same with the AA gun. I have a scope from one at my house some were.

You telling me. I didnt sleep for days!!! it was pretty exciting. I was disapointed when they called the cease fire. Its pretty neat being the only one in my National Guard Bn with a 3rd AD combat patch on my right shoulder. After 15 years (still seems like yesterday) tells what an old fart I am. Hey guys, I got a response on the tank: (the online translator did work...
)
Hello! Ryan,
My name is KAHO, a seller from HONGKONG, I got your name from my friend in CHINA, Mr. Ng, who is selling the 1/18 Diecast PLA T56 Tank.
I know that you are interesting in this product, as the payment term is different from HONGKONG & CHINA, Mr.Ng is hard to do business with foreign buyer, he forwarded your information to me, hope we could have a good deal in this T56 Tank.
Regarding to your question, this T56 Tank is in 1/18 scaled, 100%Diecast, comes with a gift wooden box.
As his heavy metal, the gross weight is really heavy, I have try to find a lowest shipping way, however, the shipping fee is USD70.00.
The special price including register airmail to USA is USD185.00, payment can be settled via PAYPAL or wire transfer.
Please let me know.
Regards
KAHO
I have sent Mr. Kaho a response e-mail to verify if the total price would be $185 dollars or $185 plus $70 shipping. I have also inquired as to the price and true scale of the Type 65 37mm and the Sudden Attack Chariot (Dune Buggy). As soon as I hear back from him I'll post what the response is.
I have also given him the board's address so that maybe they will pop up here with their products.
I don't know about what ya'll think, but I think the price isn't too bad considering it is all diecast and is a tank that we will probably never see from anybody. If things can work out, I'm in for one of each.....
Then all I need is an A-10 in 1/18 scale to bust up some armor....

sounds like to me that the $185 included shipping. Yesterday we figured the tank was about $100 so with $70 shipping that total would figure. There's probably another mark up by the chap in Hong Kong, which would bring the total to $185.
Don't act too interested...lol. We may be able to negotiate him down a bit. Say stuff like: "well a bunch of my friends are interested but that's awfully expensive. Thanks for the info, i'll let you know"
I am guessing that the AA gun will be $105.
I've been doing some research and it doesn't look like they were used in korea or vietnam. But a similar gun (with some mods) was for sure used in Iraq.
I'm thinking of modifying one by taking out one of the guns to make a single 37mm, as used by the russians during wwii.
Keep us posted, Birddog. Good work.

Keep us posted on what you find out, and if you order one, how that quality is (it looks good in the pics, but Photoshop is a wonderful thing)--maybe if the guy is a dealer with a regular supply, we on the forum can work out something with him to keep a regular business going--and maybe even reduce shipping costs for future offerings. I am sure the cost to ship a case would be less per piece than to ship just one, assuming we could get them through customs.

The Type 65 was a Chinese version of the M-1939 Soviet made 37mm (with and extra barrel it appears, which is why it is dubbed Type 65 over Type 55 I assume).aferguson wrote:

The M-1939 was used in Vietnam. Here is story about one that was found in Vietnam:
http://www.lcompanyranger.com/weapons/37mmpage.htm
The Chinese exported their version to Vietnam too so I would assume that they were probably present as well. In all, I could see being able to use this model as a great base for a Vietnamese 37mm. I could also see the tank being done the same way as well. The Chinese version of this tank was exported to Vietnam. I'm trying to find more information on its deployment as well.
I have indicated to Mr. Kaho that there are many more interested in these 1/18 subjects and any others that they may have or have in the works. I have given him this boards address and invited him to come here as well. I'll keep expressing the great interests there is to him. Hopefully we can get something going.

Let me correct myself a bit,
After looking at some more information, the model we're looking at of the Type 65 might actually be a Type 74. The Type 74 was a twin cannon version of the Type 65. I believe they were still exported and probably used in Vietnam and maybe even in Iraq.

both the type 65 and type 74 were twin barrel. They Type 74 was a minor alteration of the type 65.
The type 65 was developed in the late 60's (and completely independantly of the Russian twin barrel mod of 1948). So while the time frame is correct for Vietnam, it is still very possible that these were NOT used in Vietnam. Lots of Chinese and Russian equipment never made it to the front lines in vietnam. (eg the ZSU 24, which everyone assumes was used in vietnam, only appeared in the very last couple of days before the end of the war and only about 4 of them saw any action during those couple of days).
The Russian twin barreled modification of the type1939 was used in Iraq for sure, i've seen pictures of it. It's a bit different than the type 65 but nothing earth shattering.
So the best use for it is for an Iraqi aa gun. The next best would be to modifiy it to a single barrel and then it can be used for russian WWII, korea and Vietnam.

I agree, just like I was thinking. I still wouldn't rule out the possible use of twin barrel versions in Vietnam of which this could make a great base for. From things I've read, there seems to still be speculation on what was used that we didn's see or capture, especially up north. The only difference between the Type 65 and Type 74 from what I have read is the rate of fire and it's ability to be plugged into a radar controlled system. Either way the M-1939 was the beginning base for what the Chinese developed with this platform.
Here is another article on the Type 65, which is shown as a single barrell:
http://www.russianwarrior.com/STMMain.h ... _M39.htm&1
Here is more on the Type 55, 65, 74 family. Scroll down the page until you find the right Type. It also says that the twin barrell version of the Type 65 is a copy of the twin barrell M-1939:

I recieved some more pictures of the 1/18 Type 59 tank from Mr. Kaho this morning with his response I posted earlier. I just sent them to Digger to be posted here on the forum.
Hopefully he'll send me some pictures of the Type 65 37mm and the Sudden Attack Chariot to post too.

It looks like it does have all metal treads. As tight as they look they still have the sag. They very likely could be metal for the weight to give it that sag. I'm sure some plastic and rubber has to be in there somewhere though. Hopefully those of us that want to can find out soon enough......

wow......those prices are way too high for me.
What about buying them directly from the chinese ebay site? On there the tank was about $100. Shipping would just have to be less than $155 (and i'll bet it's much less) for it to be the better buy.
You know, in the guy's first email it really sounded like the TOTAL price, including shipping, was $185.
"....The special price including register airmail to USA is USD185.00,..."
I wonder if he's seizing an opportunity to jack up the prices, because you emailed back and asked if the price was including shipping or not, which may have indicated to him that you'd be willing to pay $185 PLUS shipping...

We'll see. I've requested to know why the difference so we'll have to wait and find out. I've also explained that it is too much for many.
But wouldn't the ebay listed one be up for bids? Meaning that it may demand a higher price as the bidding goes on? We've seen many items sold on ebay for under what we know the seller bought them for at a retail outlet. I don't know if that is a Buy It Now price or just a Start Bid amount on the ebay listing.
I've requested more information from him anyhow so I'll post his response when I get it. Stay tuned..........
