Good recon, so much for the small retailers claiming they have something you can't buy in the store..

I also like how one retailer went so far as to initially allege tooling mods to the fuselage as a way to boost sales...I take it from recent recipients of the new bird that this was not the case..

That's my luck, I just get done opening my Avenger and now the 2nd wave is hitting W.M. :( Wait, why should this bother me? We never had the 1st ser. here and I doubt that we'll see the 2nd ser. either. Now back to my hole filling. :)

It's no wonder some of the other stores don't get their fair share! :x :x

Walmart in McDonough GA had seven Avengers - I placed the best one of the bunch on layaway. And just found out WM is getting rid of this service - No More layaway??! This will change my spending habits greatly when it comes to XD and the family.
Question:
Do pretty much all the Avengers have seperation on the seam (if your looking down at the cockpit the crack that runs down to the nose) Some of the ones I saw tonight had large gaps in that seam.

I may keep this one in the box and wait to see what else WM gets Avenger wise.

Both of my WM Avengers have that same seam seperation. Not bad though.

Miracles never cease!

I just got back from a run to the Niles, MI Walmart to scout for Hanomags, Pak-40's, and M-16, and came up dry. However, they do have about 18-20 of the second generation (screw covers, pitot tube) Avengers up high on the shelves in sporting goods (makes sense to me, sure!). Bad news is: they are tagged correctly at $70.
In other XD news, anybody still trying to find various Bf-109s or German F-104s? There are plenty to be had...

In 32x news, they had the new 3-ton truck and new halftrack--but in kit form, not assembled. And tons of Calais, Okinawa, and Stalingrad playsets, as well as both airplane 2-packs and some of aferguson's beloved Macchis. And they still have a ton of the Flakpanzer variants in Motorworks packaging.

So if anyone else is in the general SW Michigan/NW Indiana vicinity knows of any Hanomags, M16's, etc. to be had in the general area, let me know--I am up for an extended scouting mission!

I'm pretty shocked by the total numbers of Avengers people are reporting at Wal Marts. 17 is phenomenal  I don't think any of the 6 Wal Marts in my area would have space for even a case of them - if they would ever show up in any number greater than one, that is

Where the heck did they come from?
Guess WM is thinking that they will sell during Christmas - but 70.00 each?

I was pulling four Avengers off the shelf one at a time and taking them to the scanner - hoping at least one would show a no scan - but I was "thatguy" getting asked by staff if they could help me - I said no I have everything under control.

Spotted on the East Coast. Clinton MD Wal*Mart had six of the "plugged" Avengers on Tuesday 11/21/06. Oh, and yes the wing holes on the bottom of the plane are plugged, every single one of them. The wing mounting screws come with plugs too. Paint blending on the examples I have seen is perfect even when there is a color change across the plug. Splashes of silver in the cockpit were added, but the interior of the rear hatch door is now painted white instead of the original green. Most of the examples I saw had poor wing packing. This looked like it was going to cause tightness and alignment of the wing joint problems. All the boxes were double taped like they had been reopened and resealed. Look for these on the endcap of the magazine aisle.

I found 12 new ones here. They were the "plugged" versions. Interesting. They fixed the planes, but the crew is horrible!! They are of the same quality as the Ridge Runner P-51 pilot. It's amazing how different 2 releases of the same crew can be. I'm REALLY happy with my holy Avenger.

I'm a little late with these  but here are some pics from talented member Billgiff that show how well those pesky holes can be filled. You can also see some detailing on the panel lines, around the exhaust and an antenna. Very well done stuff.

LOL looks just like mine I used a plastic fork and bent it straight to make my antennas, I also added the lines with a mechanical pencil, along with the Bbi corsair pilot . Good job!!!!

Seeing the nice custom work is getting me inspired... Anyone have any recommendations as to what adhesives work well with the 21st Century plastics?

For my custom antenna mast I used a tong from a plastic fork and warmed it up to bend, I then trimmed it downed and cut out a natch on the canopy I then used superglue and then painted,
Repeat for the tail section, for the antenna itself I used some thin black showing thread

WM got three Avengers in today, ending about a six month aircraft dry spell. I spent about 15 minutes starring at each, looking for defects or broken pieces. I wasn't to happy with the first two but there was a third way up on top. Had to wait another 10 minutes after they called for customer assistance for the employee to arrive but it was worth it as this one was pristine.

I also collect 1/48 Transformer type fighters and do the panel lines with a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. I can't wait to try that on the Avenger.
