PaK 40 repaint/customized hitch (update 11/30)

It's nothing too special. I just couldn't see my Panzerwagen hauling around a dark grey AT gun. I did essentially a field expedient job. Just the front and sides. I didn't bother with the inside of the shield. I figure if the enemy can see the inside of the shield, you're screwed anyway.

Oh, I used Polyscale Dark Panzer Yellow, Panzer Olive Green, and Mud. I need to locate a bottle of the Panzer Red/Brown to finish it up.

Yes, I was quite surprised to see the assortment sitting on the shelf. We still have Stukas and Corsairs. Not a Mig or Sabre to be seen.

I'm hoping we will be seeing official repaints of this piece in the not too distant future. Maybe a nice Ambush pattern.

What kind of paint do you use? I was also thinking of doing some custom schemes of my own. but not sure on how paint will react to this sort of plastic as oppose to styrene (of which I'm use to).BTW Great job!!

Flak, I exclusively use acrylic paints, since they do not react to the softer plastics the way enamels do. I replainted an entire Hanomag with acrylics with no ill effects. For what it's worth, I can't think of any pieces of the PaK that are anything but the hard styrene type plastic.

Thank you. I feel this item has some serious custom potential for that very reason. C'mon guys. Let's see some more schemes. You airbrush guys should be all over the PaK.

For what it's worth, I've seen several representations online where the PaK was simply painted with the Panzer Dark Yellow. There's not necessarily a need to go crazy with color.

This pattern was totally made up, with no reference photos. I've seen a few with only the Dark Panzer Yellow, and others with a pattern similar to the Panzerwagen, except the stripes are closer together. I'm planning on adding some red/brown to it, and that should finish it up.

Nope, no Hanomag in similar paint. I've already repainted one halftrack(DAK), and I think that's enough. Not having an airbrush severely curtails my motivation on complete repaints.

As for a crew? My XD is currently split bewteen my place and my girlfriend's. I have some Germans at home that I'll have to dig out to operate the PaK.

I`m glad you made up that camo instead of searching & copying.
After all Not all camo`s used by the German`s conformed with a standard type.

I think this sort of camo truely add`s to the realism & authenticity of being on a battle front & adapting.Show`s this PAK40 has been on around awhile & had camo`s painted on by her crew.

As for the hanomag,I hear you,something i too need to get is an airbrush.

As for the German forces of your`s.Didn`t WWII teach you anything???
You cannot hope to win with 2 or more Battlelines.....LOL

lol No doubt. But with the front that is my girlfriend's place, it would be best to withdraw, and negotiate a truce.

She simply doesn't have the shelf space. I can hang airplanes all day long, but vehicles don't work too well. The only ones that remain there from the bulk of my collection are 3 Panzer IV's and a Winter Sherman. That's the only shelf I have left.

I was hoping to capture a 'field expedient' effect with this particular paint job. It's nice to see someone appreciate the attempt for it's intended effect. Now if only I had half a clue how to do weathering.

After doing a little researech(which I should have done prior to suggesting an Ambush PaK

), I concluded that an Ambush PaK likely never existed. I understand that particular scheme was applied to armored vehicles at the factory, suggesting they wouldn't waste the resources to camouflage an AT gun in such a manner. Most schemes were either one color, or had a scheme similar to the Panzerwagen's.

Still, it would look pretty dang good.

I know it`s not your ambush colour. Though camo`s where used,s what`s to say somewhere out there during WWII there wasn`t a Pak 40 crew who didn`t have it on?

As said i like the concept & just cause there is isn`t photo evidense doesn`t mean that it was NOT used.

Here`s a few camo`s I did find.

Real, Black n white

Many more others in various camo`s too as well as plain colours.

So again Top mark on taking the path to a Pak 40 that`s been around awhile on several offensives & battlefronts.

Based on all the photos I was able to locate, it seems that a spray setup was widely available, since the patterns obviously were not done with a brush. If nothing else, I have a one-of-a-kind, uber custom of my own, and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg to get it.

I'm actually thinking of reworking the pattern a little bit once I get the red/brown paint. Maybe do a hybrid Ambush/Standard pattern. It's fun to work with a small canvas.
