1/18 decal question

Post by toyktdlgh » Thu Nov 02, 2006 9:13 am

I was wondering if there is anyplace that makes German aircraft decals that would be suitable for 1/18 aircraft. Any suggestions?

John's Stuff has some Stuka decals that you could use on other aircraft.

http://www.johns-stuff.com/pages/decals/stuka.html

Just click on any of the squadron emblems shown to see the generic decals that can be used.

Vexillarius on Bad Cat also has some additional decals that you might find useful.

Thanks for the links. I think maybe I should make my own. The prices seemed a bit high especially the Stuka ones.

Price, schmice.

I'm too lazy and don't have a white ink printer. I ordered 3 sets of Tiger Tank and vehicle decal sets from him. Excellent quality decals.

Good luck with your project.

G'day flpickupman

Thanks for the positive feed back re the Tiger decal sets, I'm glad you like them.

I have been discussing with John the idea of making a dedicated Balkenkreuz and HakenKreuz decal sheet that would included correct markings from various periods sized to fit the current crop of German 1/18th scale aircraft.

It has been something I have planned to do for some time but finding the spare hours is not always that easy, research of references to maintain accuracy being the main time burner on this kind of project.

My pleasure. The decals have already graced one of my Hanomags, a Panzer IV, and one of my Panthers. They make renumbering tanks and vehicles a breeze. I'm always looking forward to new 1/18 scale items on John's site.

One thing that would be really nice, is if you guys could find the time to scale down some of the 1/6 decals. Especially the US markings.

Thanks again for a superb product. :D

I didn’t realize that they were complete sheets for that price. My bad. That’s what I get for not reading.

G'day flpickupman

"Especially the US markings" you'll be glad to know that this has already been done, I have created a set that includes the content of the following two sets in 1/18th scale:

http://www.johns-stuff.com/pages/decals/decal1a2.html

http://www.johns-stuff.com/pages/decals/decal1a3.html

Not quite sure why they are not listed on John's sight but if you were to just drop him an eMail request, I'm sure he will be happy to knock you up a set or two in no time.

I got John to do the same set for Razor on my behalf as part of a trade deal that Razor and I did.

G'day toyktdlgh

Yes the decals are on one full US letter sheet, they include more or less a full set of stencils for the Stuka and cover nearly all the main Luftwaffe Stuka units, I am very proud of the unit emblem art work which took quite some time to research.

To make the Balkenkreuz and HakenKreuz I used the official WWII Luftwaffe dimensions and ratio formulas to get the most accurate marking I could.
