I am actually not that "into" aircraft, just certain aircraft...

After the 302, i may make an F-22, though.

G'day Bar

That's what I'm hoping to do, I had a close look (well as close the Google will let me) at the figures that are available and I have decided the original BBI US Navy SEAL Night Ops figure looks to be the closest, I base this assumption on an Army Night Ops figure that I already have, although the vest is not exactly right it will be close enough for this project.

Unfortunately these figures along with most 1/18th stuff are not readily available in Australia and the few that I have seen on eBay are either far too expensive to start with or I simply get out-bid.

If I can get hold of the figures I will then try do a minimal kit bash by swapping in heads from other figures to get the team together, I'm looking at using either a GI-Joe "GI-Jane" or a "Bombshell" head for Sam and the 21stCT Vietnam figure for Teal'c if I can ever find one those that is.

And I already have a decal master made up in 1/6th scale for the shoulder patches which I will just reduce to 1/18th.

G'day Bar

Just for interests sake I was able to dig up a couple of images from my WPC's hard drive.

First up is a LoRes version of the arm 1/6th patches template which I would re-scale for use on 1/18th. The were originally drawn 1:1 with full colour shading, however I found that when I reduced them to 1/6th much of the detail got lost so I just removed the shading.

..............and here is an initial image of my 1/6th team member project.

Well I too have a WIP on SG1 & my own SG team. Earlier in the year I sculted a Teal`C head which I`m very happy with, just need to add the Serpy emblem to his forehead.

I`ve got some Jaffa sorted too though need to make their weapons.

For those who shop at GTG,I believe they have plans for a SG1 vested torso (copy of the Series vest sculpted). Add Marauder John`s taken care of the weapons too.
For those with no sculpting skills, having their own SG1 teams.

Just need to sort out a Gate & DHD.

I am working on a 1/24 Gate at the moment(I know it's no good for 1/18, but i will easily be able to make on in 1/18 too):

I am also working on a 1/24 Puddle Jumper:

This is my little joke(If i were in charge, they'd be using Trailie bikes to get around outside on other planets...).

Very Nice BAR & I must admit I agree in the idea of using Trial bikes or Quads for offworld patrolling.

Here`s my SG1 project which hasn`t been touched in awhile.
Well did this earlier this year.
The body I still have to sort out & still do the symbol on his forehead.

So this is just a quick knocked up body to show how high he will stand.

Looking good.
I can't wait to see how you get on with those.
I did a little work on another project today.
It's a Gi Joe fighter i got recently.
I posted images of it farther back the thread, but i was unhappy with the wings, and so i have done a little re-modelling.
I used the top stabilisers from a Star Wars Shuttle Tydirium model kit, and i feel it makes it more like a fighter showing F-22 style design lineage(The images are not B&W. I primered it with pale grey, and photographed it against a grey Scottish sky...):

Again very nice Bar.

The fighter actually (to me) has a mix of Macross & Stargate for some reason.

I do like it though. So how easy do you think that cockpit might be to convert for the 4" Joes instead of the 2.5 it`s intended for?

Thanks.
As for the conversion, it's techincally possible if(And i stress the IF part), you are willing to slightly alter both the cockpit, and the figure to be piloting the craft.
The cockpit itself actually comes off(Like the ejection mechanism on the new Captain Scarlet White Falcons), and there are only three screws holding it together.
The problem, however, is that most of the newer Joes have what i like to call: "Dynasty shoulder pad syndrome", and their deltoid area is ridiculously bulky. There are parts of the FireBat cockpit that can be removed if needed, but the majority of work would be on the figure.
Here are some pics:
Image

Image
This was the only Joe i had to hand, and believe it or not, i had to remove one arm to get him to fit in there...
A figure with a less bulky set of shoulders would fit in a bit better, but it's still a squeeze...
And of course, you have to remove the seat, so a new one would have to be scratch-built too.
I would give this one a thumbs-down on the 1/18 scale-o-meter, because of the work involved(And even at the 1/24 it is originally, it looks like a small plane, so at 1/18, it's smaller than a light aircraft such as a cessna).
I removed the seat unit, and without it, there's room for a second pilot:
Image
Remember that it doesn't look like this when you get it:
Image
It looks like this:
Image
Also, it has landing feet for some reason:
Image
I felt that even a VTOL plane would need wheels for when it's on the ground, and unable to move under it's own power. Like during maintenance:
Image
I don't know what they were thinking with that red canopy, but i also know it's not a problem to fix(I just vac-formed a new clear one, and dremeled out the old canopy, leaving just a frame to attach the new one to.
I honestly think it looks way better in clear.
I have a large stash of these things to make as variants when i get the time.
I hope that answered the question...(Even if it was long-winded...).

The 302?
Or the Firebat?
So far, the 302 has cost me about $50 worth of supplies, and maybe 18 hours of my time(I've been totally busy this week with work, and researching a set of good orthos for a possible 1/24 F/A-22(If i can get good reference, i may attempt it in 1/18 too).

The materials are 2mm plexiglass, and 30 thou styrene.

Don't be. There's not a lot to it.
It's going to be harder to scratchbuild an F/A-22.

Actually, guys, i have just made a contact for some really good reference for the 302. My previous plans were not totally accurate. I have been asked to make a few new masters in several scales. I will update here as there is new info.

Hey guys! I totally forgot about this thread...
Here's the position i am in now:
not only were my previous plans innacurate, the scaling was waaaaay off. The plane i was building in this thread to be 1/18 was actually closer to 1/24...
It turns out the 302 is something like 26 metres across. Scary stuff.
I have to say i probably wouldn't begin a new 1/18 master with this new info. It would just be too big. But i'll never say never.
What i have been doing is a few other kit masters in the meantime. They are not 1/18, but i will share them with you guys anyway(Pics at the bottom of this post).

A 1/24 scale Jedi Starfighter from Star Wars Episode II.

A 1/24 scale Viper MKVII from the new Battlestar Galactica(Still a work in progress).

A 1/2500 scale USS Prometheus from Stargate SG1.

A 1/2500 scale USS Daedalus from Stargate Atlantis.

And now the pics.

G'day Bar

Thanks for the quick resposne, your USS Prometheus and Daedalus are very cool and would look great as sitting on top of my work PC, the SW stuff aint half bad either.

Well seeing that the F-302 is to big for 1/18th what about a Puddle Jumper (I realy want one of these for my SG team) or maybe even a Wraith Dart in 1/18th scale, not to mention that also need a Chapa'hai!

Keep up the great work and do keep us (well at least me your fellow SG tragic) posted.

I'll see what i can do, but i cannot promise anything.
The Daedalus will be released as a kit in the next few weeks, and the Prometheus will not be far behind it.
