Has anyone put the BBI and PTE M1 side by side for comparison?

yes, the PTE M1 is much smaller..
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Is bigger necessarily better? What does the PTE M1 look like? How is it detailed? The reason I ask is that while the PTE figures are a pretty lame as compared to BBI, some of their vehicles such as the Humvee and the desert patrol vehicle look damn good.

Bigger is better if you care about 1/18 scale. The size of the bbi M1 is just right - true 1/18 scale, and in turn huge.
It does not have great detail in terms of opening hatches, engine access or removable stowage, but is nonetheless an impressive beast.

that tank looks cool as hell, i was gonna buy a couple of PTE's to custom paint but only if they were in scale with the BBI
