I just added fuel lines to my auxiliary drop tanks on the P-51 Ridge Runner I used electric base guitar wire. I just cut to desired length and stuck them in, no glue or any thing. I just hope they look right. Sine I did not have any real reference.
Since I taken these pictures I also removed the gray paint on the tires and panted them flat black

They look good. What color paint did you use on the wires? Does the guitar wire come in variable size/gauge or it is pretty much all the same. Looks like it would make great general purpose tubing for anything 1:18!

They come in many variable sizes and gauges, and I did not paint them.

Small mod that really stands out. That is a great idea using guitar strings!

VMF,
Here's a great reference photo for you, if you decide to try this again. From book: " P-51 Mustang Restored" by the late Paul Coggan. Available from " Motorbooks International" at 1-800-826-6600. Many excellent reference photos of the restoration of F-6D " Lil' Margaret".......John

Here's a picture of the BBI 1:18 mustang drop tank. It is pretty well detailed and had the fuel lines. Note that one appears to be a dark green instead of black. Sorry for bad lighting.

I use guitar strings for alot of details. My brother also uses them to detail his railroad models. It also helps that I collect guitars.

Thanks for the Information, grunt1, jbell,
Is there any way you can fix the rake of the landing gear on the Bbi P-51?

Dont mean to bud in but first nice job on the tanks and second theres no way to fix the rake on the BBI P-51. None that I know of anyway and thats a bummer.
