Rare Macchi's...
This guy has like five different "rare" Macchi's for sale, plus a grey panzer...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Ultimate-soldier-Ma ... dZViewItem
I sent him a PM and gently tried to explain that these really are not "rare" or even scarce for that matter, but he got rather hostile and basically said..."If I can get people to buy them it's my business..." Well, maybe so, and I'm not sure what the e-bay policy is, I suppose if you don't grossly misrepresent something or try to sell forgeries you are probably safe, but I think calling these things rare is a bit of a stretch, WM's in my area have stacks of them for $15 or so each, and just because his local store is "sold out and not re-stocking" does not make them rare.

I suppose I should have put this in the e-bay sticky thread...Ooops! Anyway, the problem I have with his ad is that he states: "....this is a very rare item and you can no longer buy this anywhere..." both of which are absolutely untrue. His response to my "suggestion" was basically "...Screw you, mind your own business.." which to a certain extent I can understand, if there is no one with the power to tell him differently he can pretty much do as he pleases.

It's amazing to see some of the stuff that people put on Evil Bay and what they're asking for it. It's the same stuff that Wally's has but the price has been jacked up. Finder's fee? I don't know. I'm old fashioned when it comes to the B/S/T forum here. I'll help you find something, you help me find something. I don't want anything out it but honesty. This guys is full of you-know-what.

'No offense, but I think you might have stretched the 'rare' thing a bit far.'
Check it
Well since you have enough time to use up my time e-mailing you back would you consider 1 of a 5000 made item rare ? I would and it really doesn't matter either way if people do not think it is, they will not buy it, It is a free country the last time I checked and I paid for that freedom with a chunk of sharpnel in my side, and how have you paid for that freedom ?and Airsoft battles do Not Count(as I almost lost a tooth in one )

When you pose these questions/statements to this seller, cant you have your questions viewable to other ebay viewers so that they know you are basicly calling him out on his "stretch" use of vocabulary?
The short answer is no....it's basically set up like our PM system here, your question goes into the sellers mailbox and his responses go into your mailbox, and these messages are only viewable by the parties involved as far as I know. I'm not really sure what e-bay policies are regarding the terminology you use when advertising something, but my guess is that they are fairly lenient as long as you are not perpetrating an outright fraud, or an otherwise egregious misrepresentation of your goods, and the definition of "rare" is broad enough to allow quite a bit of flexibility with regard to what constitutes a rare item. In the end, I suppose the term "Caveat Emptor" (buyer beware) is the best policy.

hold on..
Catman, I notice most of your auctions allege "rare" or "very rare" and "hard to find." At least this guy has decent prices. I see you allege the SS set to be both very rare and hard to find while asking $150....this guy is selling a $20 plane for $25 and they are both 1 of 5000. I see you also said the Dragon Action 18 Tiger turret was "rare" but it is the furthest thing from it - clearanced with at least 6 small retailers.catman wrote:'No offense, but I think you might have stretched the 'rare' thing a bit far.'

Not saying this guy is particularly honest but let's be real with ourselves before piling on.
And cruizin, I agree that this forum should not be a place for taking people to the cleaners - it really bothers me when members turn to the good people of this board for items they then plan to mark up and sell on ebay. We could do that ourselves! How would Razor feel if I took the Sabre he sold me at cost and sold it on ebay (no worries Razor, it's a keeper
