Where are the masks?
Where are the masks?
I purchased 21c's P-47 ("Eileen") and the P-51 ("flying Undertaker") recently and neither of the pilots came with an oxygen mask. I've purchased the pilots individually as carded items both from e-tailers and Walmart and both came with masks. I contacted 21c via e-mail and was told that "they were not tooled for those models". A second e-mail requesting information on where I can find some was not returned.
I've looked at the BBI WWII aircraft and ALL of the figures for all of their aircraft included oxygen masks (including the Corsair where both 21c's carded and boxed pilots do not). My thinking is that for $50 an oxygen mask isn't too much to ask for expecially if it's included in their carded figure of the same type. Also, I purchased 21c's Corsair and F-104 (which did come with a mask). Can anyone tell me if there's a way to make the canopies more transparent? In the case of the Starfighter, I can barely see the pilot (or his mask).

Most of the first series 21st C planes had them, like the P-51, P-38, and Stuka. I haven't got a newer Stuka or P-38, so I don't know if they don't have them any more too. I don't know why they stopped including them in
. I know some of the P-47 Pilots don't even have a parachute and other accessories that they came with when include with some P-38s and on card. The other odd thing is that some of the P-38s came with the Corsair Pilot. Stranger than that is one of my Bf-109 Pilot came with an O2 mask with a winter 109 and they didn't come with them in the first place with any 109
.

The lack of mask was a consciencious decision to cut costs. As far as the Corsair pilots with P-38s, they were included with all Pacific theater airplanes. It was a good move IMHO. There wasn't that much difference between AAF and Navy/Marine pilot gear to have to create a seperate figure.

I have never bought any BBI stuff what are the two different kinds of head gear that come with the BBI figures?tpa05 wrote:They didn't include the masks in order to cut costs. You've got to be kidding. Not only does BBI include a mask but 2 types of headgear. I'm not convinced a mask would put 21c out of business. Again, $50 should cover it.

The first pilots of some of the first 21c planes came with masks - the P-51, Stuka and P-38. I recieved the mask & parachute with the pilot of my P-47 Razorback, but I bought that from a small retailer and there was aparently a difference with the Wal Mart selection. Pilots to newer planes have not included masks, such as on the Spitfire, ME-109G, FW-190, retooled P-51, while the Jet pilots thus far have. I don't know whether its a cost saving measure or just a little detail that gets left out.
Isc1002, the two types of headgear that came with the BBI P-51 pilot were a flight helmet with attached O2 Mask, and a USAAF Officer's cap. The other BBI pilots have come with removable helmets, but no extra hats.

Did the officer's cap look like the one pictured? I got two of these caps in a lot off ebay and always wondered where it came from, they were orginally red in color.tmanthegreat wrote: Isc1002, the two types of headgear that came with the BBI P-51 pilot were a flight helmet with attached O2 Mask, and a USAAF Officer's cap. If I were to guess it would be GI Joe, but I can't find any red caps like that. Only blue and black, but it could be a Funskool version too.lsc1002 wrote:Ja, I got a few of these caps in a junk lot of ebay, they were red when I got them and I painted green and brown. anyway I have been trying to find out where/who made them. I don't think anyone knows! I thought they were GI Joe but I am not sure now. Does anyone have the GI Joe figures Colonel Brekhov and Red Star? If so is the cap pictured above belong to the Joe figures?tpa05 wrote:The hats are cool. Any idea on where to get masks that size (sorry, couldn't help myself).

Colonel Brekhov's hat is black and Red Star's hat is blue. Also General Flagg came with a brown cap simular to those and later came with a green one different still. I couldn't find anything red one, but many Funskool Joes are not cataloged and such. I would say it was made from a Joe one being a cast or could have been painted red. I still think it's Joe though maybe even Funskool Joe. Sorry I couldn't help much more.
