Kind of funny, but with a little work, you would have an interesting looking jet. I mean, it wouldn't be an F-4 Phantom, but it would be a cool looking little plane nonetheless!

It really doesnt look that bad up close!!

For bombs I used them from the Combat Command A-18, Old Crow P-51, and MiG-15. For wheels I used combat command A-10..

well this was my final entry..

Cats i hope you didn`t think I came across harsh.Wasn`t meant too.

As said by Kagnew,your young & with practice comes experiance & this gives you advanced skills.

I don`t think ANYONE would dare claim to be an expert customizer here as we are ALL learning all the time.

You take the crits & comments & see if you can address them.

As said you certainly captured several similarities of the F4 & that`s already a step in the right direction. Add that the plane is a good size too,certainly adds to it.
Forme I suggest possibly re-tackling the intakes & wings to make it look even closer to an F-4.

Considering the parts used though You`ve done a good job for the similarities.

Hey Catman,

I have to give you total props for your efforts. Since you had asked me those questions a few days back, I had already figured you were 75 percent done with your project. Then I figured you were gonna do some re-fitting. I like your rendition of the stern end and how you angled the tail. Of course the F-4 has a bit more wing surface area but great job at tackling the challenge. As the peeps said before me, practice makes perfect and I'm sure now you know what its like to hack through plastic!

Thanks guys, but really, dont tell me its goodi f its not. if you dont like it, say so, dont say 'good for your age' or 'practice makes perfect'. if its not good, tell me just that. im looking for advice, not to get showered with BS. if you tell me its good when it sucked, id continue this, making crappy planes? thats not good. its advice, just tell me and tell it like it is. i can percept that waht you guys are meaning, but just say it outright. i mean thanks for the compliments, but thats not waht they really are. if its not, i dont want them. just the truth. thats what i want.

it does kinda hurt getting these comments cause i worked hard, but its ok. i thoguht it looked cool, but apparantly its 'funny' and 'if i did some work'. well thanks for setting me in my place. thats waht id need

Hey there,

Don't be to harsh on yourself there. Building things can be a helluva learning curve and if this is your first one from scratch its pretty good. As you've said, you've invested time and effort in it and versus kit models, building things from scratch parts is a lot more challenging because you have to plan a lot more so you have to be proud of that. You'll discover and teach yourself things about your capabilities that you wouldn't imagine were possible. Enjoy the process and make a note of what works and what doesnt work for you. Lastly, if things don't turn out like you want, you've at LEAST learned something.

Catman if I tried to do that you all would REALLY laugh at my efforts . As the saying goes"We all have to start somewhere" Now hemming up a skirt/pants or slacks etc I think I would win hands down over most of you

Hey catman, my advice would be to buy one of those balsa wood kits, those ones which are rubberband powered and come with a set of plans. That way you could get a feeling for scratchbuilding to scale and to given profiles which will result in a more correct overall "look". Start with a cheap, simple one first because you can get ones which are quite intricate in their construction. But dude, I didn't realise you were 12 either. You have a lifetime to practise at this artform. I know it may sound like it's a lifetime away and yeah it sucks sometimes. Just trust me when I say you'll look back on your models now and be surprised with how far you've come!

As I mentioned in the contest thread catman, I felt you picked an incredibly complex plane to make from scratch. I know of only one board member who made a scratch jet for my first contest that has ever attempted a jet. You are definately going to be able to make us all jealous of your abilities someday. How many people entered this contest out of the total # of members. 3! And you were one of them. Stand tall and be proud of your accomplishments.

Catman, the facts are that it is good for your age and we do all have to start somewhere. Don't take those as derogatory comments....it's just a fact of life.

It's a good effort. Could it be better? Absolutely for sure....it could be a lot better, but that doesn't mean it isn't any good. You'll find in life that things you (or anyone else for that matter) create can always be better but that doesn't mean they are not good or even excellent the way they are. Be proud of your achievements and learn from them to do even better on the next effort.

No one starts out by running a four minute mile.....you have to build up to it over time. It's the same for any of life's worthwhile endeavours.

So true what aferguson said, in fact you have guts and you did it, you tried. in my book that is good enough.

When I was a kid I made a Mig 31 fire fox out of cardboard it look cool and I wish I still had it.

Forget about your age, it's your imagination that'll get you from point A to point B. If you were my neighbor and presented that to me, I'd be happy and display it somewhere.

Good eye. Keep practicing and scope out as many pics of the F-4 as you can. This will give you some great ideas and a big variety of pics to use.
