Hey guys. Was meant to post these earlier this week. I tried to cut some corners when building the wings but it backfired and I ended up having to re-profile them to the correct shape on the undersides of each wing, which set me back a few days. Also, these are the master forms - not the actual model. So I'll be making some fibreglass moulds of these forms for the finished plane (fingers crossed).

That is some very nice work on the BF-110. Look at all that balsa.

Reminds me of the old days of building radio controlled airplanes. When my grandfather and I first got into the hobby. Back in those days, you had to build everything up from balsa like you have done with the Bf-110. I remember the amount of work it was so to see something like you have done is tremendous. Great work!

Now most of the R/C planes have prebuilt componets and some come totally built and are made out of foam because people didn't want to build them anymore. Yeah well. Sorry, off on a tangent there.

Very nice work, look forward to seeing the finished model.

Thanks for the comments. It's actually really great to hear you guys because up until now, the only people who have seen this project are my room-mates and being all females are like *wow yawn*. So it's good to know, not just me, but all us guys building for this comp that our work is going to get recognised by like minded people.

Once you have your molds maybe you could hollow out the cockpit area on this one & use this too??

Whatever path you take at the end of the day,Wish you good luck on getting this done & sharing with females My arn`t we the lucky one

When it's finished you must bring it along to one of our tank club meets,sometimes I take my planes along and set up a german airfield,your 110 will look good on that!

steelbonnet - with the time ticking away I am almost considering just using the moulds for the actual model. But I have to keep reminding myself how cool it would be to have a dedicated set of bf110 moulds!

Hey tankdual, hows it going? Looks like I'll be pushing a bit to hard for a photo-op before the due date, but we should catch up sometime for sure. My friend and I have been talking about going to motat for ages but we were waiting for a cool exhibition to come along (we missed the robots one).

Any-hoo, heres the lastest progress pics. Fuselage halves have been mated. And the wings (upper surfaces) have been glassed, so should be able to start assembling tomorrow (more bogging and sanding!). I think I'll make the tail plane parts out of acrylic sheet, so I don't have to do the whole mould - glass thing. Will hopefully start on the detail parts this weekend. Managed to get hold of some scale mainwheels and tail wheels and will attempt to make the undercarriage out of stock alluminium tubing.

Must admit if I thought I had space & time & also talent I may have jumped on this contest myself.

As it is I`m just happy to stick with Troops & ground vehicles

Doesn`t stop me admiring the Aircrafts though & who knows one day I may try my hand at an aircraft....LOL

Aarrgghh. I've mentioned this in the actual competition thread, but just to reiterate. I'm running out of time fast so I've grudgingly had to give up on the moulds idea, and make the model out of the actual masterforms. The upside is now I'm slighty back on track (but still way behind - but feeling more confident of completing this). I still have to add ribs to the wheel wells (4 along each side of the sidewalls). I still have to build the cockpit, canopy(!?), props, tailplane, landing gears and various bits and pieces. Luckily having gone to university, I'm well schooled in the art of not sleeping for 4 days straight, so in a way I have about 8 days left

Yes, but at the moment it actually looks worse than before (fuselage is cut open and wings are off). I'm working on it S-L-O-W-L-Y but I've had other projects underway which have taken my time. Here are the original pics of the model.......

The original plan was a detailed cockpit / wheel well compartments and generally much more detailed. So basically the plane has been stripped down and I'm just adding things bit by bit as per what I originally had in mind. Paint scheme is probably going to be the one in the picture, second one down (wasp)

How did you make the canopy ? Is it vacuformed ? Also are the wheels custom made or store baught ?

The canopy was plunge moulded over a wooden master form. I used a hair dryer to soften/melt the clear plastic sheet. The wheels are premade through a company here in New Zealand. They're marketed for radio control aircraft. Alluminium landing gears are custom.
