I have a Vietnam Era Savage Shotgun model 69R-H. I don't think it was used in the military, but it has the shorter stock, but isn't marker U.S.
It does have a Spade marked on it.
Any ideas on what this means? There is also an SP8 or possible SP6 or possible SP3 marked on it a few times. There is also some type of half astrix type thing four times in a row.
Any ideas?

Did the US actually have OFFICIALLY issued shotguns in Vietnam? Shotguns are banned by the Geneva convention, however, I know we had 'em there.
The only military shotguns I've seen were ones my dad purchased (as a gun dealer) that were supposed to go to Iran back in the early 1980's..... I believe those were Mossbergs....

Yes we did. I had one when I was there. I can't remember if it was a winchester or not, but I'm pretty sure it was.
It might have been an ithica.
There were esentially 4 main types of shotguns in use by the the U.S. and were marked U.S. on the reciever for the most part.
The shogun that I am speaking of is the exact same shotgun model that savage would have been producing for vietnam. Identical. Including the smaller stock for possible use by ARVN's (smaller arms).
So, the answer is, yes.
I'm trying to figure out if this is U.S. or just made for the U.S. and never marked/used or what.
