Why don't we all go to Canada and show up at Aferg's house

Given that he's the moderator and P-51 has disappeared, it only seems fair. I used to have aferg's address from an ebay auction I won from him (for an S1 Panzergrenadier figure), but that was a couple years ago and I think I long since tossed the envelope...

i live in Charlottesville Va.
i go to Piper hobbies in Chantilly Va a lot, also go to Fairfax HS for IPMS show every year.
you needed to put WV MD & VA in your head line, there are a lot of collecters in this area

How about this suggestion?

Southwestern Virginia has the "American Armoured Foundation" Tank Museum located in Danville, VA. They have meeting rooms and plenty of space! Plus there is alot to look at if one gets bored with the company, not that that would happen!

Bedford and the D-Day Memorial are also within a short trip from the Museum!

I think the idea of a single national meet is a great idea, but do we have enough members to support a big meet. Meeting places cost money.

A regional meet makes sense to me. Only problem is, will this be a sit down general meeting to greet and meet each other, or a flea market type of meet, A flea market type meet needs more space than the living room type of meet/greet meeting.

Personally, for a "regional" meet in the NYC and Northern NJ area, I think Staten Island is centrally located with space for parking if it is a flea market type. A meet/greet meeting can be held anywhere with a big living room.

I may even have a couple of sites for the flea market type meeting. I can look into it if enough guys are interested in this area and are willing to travel to the wilds of Staten Island besides me and the other lonely XD guy on the other side of the Island from me.........and the sites I've in mind are NOT in the former site of the world's largest garbage dump

I was involved in the "revolution" against the forrunner of the MVPA and we met in a guys living room starting a new 1:1 MV club. From a start of about 10 guys meeting in person and another 30 or so who were too far away to attend, the MVPA now has about 10,000 members with local clubs, regional meets and a yearly National Cnvention rotating locations around the country. The Convention is run by one or two local clubs and takes in a five figure income and leaves a four figure profit to the local club,,,,,OK, OK, so having space for 1:1 tanks and half-tracks isn't the same as our space reguirements for our XD stuff, but the flea market is the main attraction of these Conventions as far as I have always been concerned....don't tell them I said so, but a tank is a tank, seen one, you've seen 'em all. My attraction to drive hundreds, or the the case of 2003 SFO Convention in Alameda, thousands of miles, is the flea market and the always new and very rare restored 1:1 vehicles you do not see every day.

I like TKO's idea of Vegas. You'd get the people from Arizona here (I think there are, say, 3), the California crew, Utah crew, and Texas isn't THAT far away. Would mean I would have to see family, but I have the excuse "sorry, folks, gotta go play with my toys"

While we are at this basic stage.

Do we want other scales involved. I would hope we are not limiting our meeting/flea market to 1/18. We can include all the small scales from 1/6 on down, to broaden the number of guys..and you never know when 1/6 guys see and like 1/18, or vice versa.....I'm not a plane guy but I've been seeing the newer 1/32 planes and I am interested in them.......those 1/18 planes just take up so much room, I already need for my 1/6 toys.

I think Regional is the way to start. National would be great, but the attendance would suffer as many interested members would not travel a long distance.

Great job on the MVPA, TTT. I went to the National meet a few years ago in Petersburg @ Ft. Lee! I really enjoyed it and even think the rest of the family got something out of it! And, I usually try to attend the Virginia War Museum’s Annual Military Vehicle and Militaria Collector Show in Newport News (coming up Sept 23 & 24).
I also see a bunch of 1:18 armor and aircraft on display at local military surplus stores. My son brings the list of 1:1 items he needs/wants and I bring the wallet!

What about a 1/18 fan club? I'm sure its hella work, but how about something like Mastercollector has for GI Joe? Don't limit it to one company, since you'd want more support. Yeah, this board is good, but that might be a better way of gauging interest in regional meets and such. You know, the old "build it and they will come" stuff.

Even better - fan club exclusives. Bring back stuff like the old 21C tanker two pack. Get BBi to do up some pilots for individual sell.

If gas prices weren't so high, I sure wouldn't mind a trip down to Virginia Beach for a Museum meet.

1/6 guys have recently started a New England meet at the Armored Museum in CT. For this new group, it's mostly setting up a day long diorama with everybody contributing, even if it's just helping with the set up.

You have to admit the results are impressive:

Our attraction, I feel, would be mostly the flea market, selling and trading our toys.

An added attraction is always something to see, like a Museum......or like has been suggested to me, a R/C model club meeting next to our meet. I like the idea of being in the public eye. Alot of people would be interested, if they knew we were alive.

About a hubdred years ago, I was on a business trip to KC. Sitting in my hotel watching the tube and on the news comes a story about a convention of guys that collect MV's. I never knew a club like that xisted......remember, this was before the Net....turned out to be the first convention of the MVCC, the group we revolted against a few years later, but Boy I said, I never would have dreamed that there were nuts out there with the desire to collect 1/1 MV's, just like me.

Same with us, our 1/18 toys will knock the socks off some guy that never knew we existed.

Only problem with 1/6 is it takes a bit more plastic to customize the armor. And in 1:18 I can have more Shermans and Half Tracks but it is harder to see what you are doing! That's why I don't go with 1:32......mostly.
I have found I like the size and feel of the 1:18 but I still won't let go of the 60+ 1:6 troops, Scout Car, M8 Greyhound, 8 Jeeps, 2 Shermans, 2 Stuarts and various other mortars! Not to mention the German vehicles.
Oh yeah.....cheaper too!

Shhhhh.....the real reason is my wife doesn't complain as much about the 1:18 stuff being around!

I'm also in D/FW and meeting sounds like fun.
Long as there is 1/18 Shiner. ;p

I also have a 1:1 GPW, so there are a few 1:1 collectors here too.
