If your here in mesa its US60 and the freeway.. I have been hearing $70:00 fror them not so in this case.. :D
Now there is an opportunity! Should go back, buy them all and sell them to members not able to find one, for $75.00 including shipping! That is what most of us are paying w/tax. That way, it covers the plane, shipping, and puts a few bucks in your pocket for the trouble!
Just a thought, quite reasonable!

Still can't find any, but have elected to have a boardmember send me one. The shipping might be high, but I would more than cover it with all the searching I've done!

Much as I want to get one from this forum, I'm gonna hit a few more WM's before throwing in the towel. :D

Avengers have finally landed in Broward County. I found 4 last night at the Super Walmart in Pompano Beach.

This AM there are six Avengers on eBay ranging from $90 + $25 shipping, up.

One went yesterday for $150 + $25 shipping. Sure hope that guy is happy, paying $100 more than Wally price. I know the seller is happy. 8)

I'll wait....I think this one will not be a long wait the way they are popping up, just everywhere.

TTT

That's the one thing that stands out with this release is the sudden widespread distribution of the Avenger. It's almost as if 21st said "Okay, you want the first run that was promised to e-tailers? Then you do your part and make sure it goes everywhere!"

Is this upc code correct? 063874-810181 or 38748-10181- Neither seems to register at any local walmarts- I guess that particular store would have to have it in stock to show.

Perhaps it is easier to keep driving to different stores daily-

Mind you, these Avengers have not gone everywhere!! They may have crossed the country in record time, but the distribution is actually still rather sporadic, with them hitting a few areas in force while most others can't even register the UPC code, let alone have the planes in stock.

In my AO.. I was told by 3 different Toy Managers that the Walmarts are resetting for the Christmas season (starts this Sunday) and they won't put out the new stuff until they complete the reset (End of next week)

Well Tman, you do have to admit that for Walmart, their current level of distribution is as "everywhere" as they've been. lol

I'll typically see new releases at the earliest a month and a half after the first sighting. I'd be willing to bet a BOB 2 BAR Gunner that the Avenger will be in your AO in short order.

It's interesting that the 21st website still does not show the Avenger on the main page even though it's at select W-Ms across the country. I'd think that after all these years 21st would relish the opportunity to finally promote it fully.

Widespread Avengers

Post by Big Duke 6 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 2:24 pm

Something is different in this release....

Had some spotted in New Orleans last week. Seems more widespread then usual. I have never seen a new release that fast in my area. And face it, the Big Easy has not exactly been a hotbed of XD sales since the storms.

Hope it is soon for everyone, I have felt your pain !!!

BOOYEAH!!!!! I took a trip to the Milford WM about 15 miles South of Dover over my lunch and sure enough, there they were! 8 nice little ladies in a row. My jaw dropped and I nailed my pair!! For $70 they are worth every penny. Even with the screw holes, they are the crowning achievement of 21st Century Toys, without a doubt. The sheer size and the engineering required is a step above anything else in 1:18. Just beautiful......

Here are a couple observations:

The propeller is a first! The hub is fixed to the plane and the blades are each a seperate piece, housed in a 2 piece boss. They DO NOT lean like the P-51, so be rest assured....

Image

The flight controls are excellent. The flaps, airlerons, rudder and elevators move almost full travel. Just use a bit of caution....

Image

One thing that is simply amazing is the ability to fit all three figures in the plane. When I first saw the prototype at the toy fair last year, I never imagined that the gunner would fit in the turret. But, he sure does! To keep a plane proportional and yet allow plastic figures to fit is a miracle in itself.....

Image

Just as on the real thing, the sliding canopy is in 2 pieces, both independant of eachother. A real nice piece of detail!!

Image

I'm trying to figure out what these are. I wanna believe that they are missing nav lights, but my books don't show them. They are both upper surfaces of the wings.....

Image

The folding wings are the most complex of any 1:18 plane! One of the huge issues at the toy fair was just how the wing was supposed to be locked up into position. Well it works now!! A pin engages a cam and snaps it into position. The pin for the landing gear was shortened a bit to allow the gear to "squat" outwards while resting on it. This was corrected, I believe, since the prototype as the gear were too vertical. A cool production adjustment!

Image

The tail hook doesn't extend, but this is a minor, minor thing. All I have to say is that 21st really outdid themselves.

I have to wonder if the $70 reflects the larger box somehow. Remember, the plane was supposed to be split into 2 to fit into a smaller box, however the bulk was just too much.

Wow is just not enough of a term for what I feel right now about this plane. A real beaut!! Thank you 21st!!

Wow, that is a good looking model. I can't get over the pushrods in front of the cylinders. That is a great looking engine! NICE!!!!!!!!

I agree! How in the hell do podunk places from Texas to Delaware get the Avengers (and 8 of them to boot) while we are starved in other, equally podunk, areas of the country with stores claiming that they will never get them?!? Usually, such things would have shown up in my area by now given their distribution elsewhere in California alone. 9 stores, many miles driven, and gallons of gas wasted in pointless searching!

At least I have one coming in a few days from one of the lucky boardmembers that got to see these on shelf at Wal Mart, so its not going to be a complete bust :)

I hope that when these finally do show in my area that they are part of a new shipping cycle and include a new repaint with fixed screw holes and sell for the usual $39.95 price just so I can stick it to all those that got theirs first  I don't think that will happen...

Those are also great detail shots, Teamski - you people with Avengers are really lucky!

Sorry about that Aferg, I'm just very, very annoyed! I know its completely the Wal Mart distribution system, but until now I had not been all that unhappy with it as the stores in my area got the new items when they showed up in other parts of my state or the west coast. This time, they're not and its far too coveted of a release to let pass by.

Hopefully one of the trustworthy boardmembers that found 8 of these on the eastern seaboard can send you one, since I think you may be worse off in Canada

One thing you can't appreciate until you see it in person is it's size! The wings lose a bit of dihedral from the wieght, but with the design, it's understandable....
